My good friend Andrea is having her birthday later this month, and I’m trying to think of some fun activity for a present. Do any MADs know of outdoor activities that don’t involve water (she’s nearly drowned twice, so skiing, kayaking, etc. is out). I was thinking sky-diving but that’s a bit pricey. Anyone know of any horseback riding? Rock-climbing? I’ve heard Assateague Island’s wild ponies are quite the sight. Any recs?
How about just plain old hiking? http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/
Personally, I sometimes go hiking in Robert E. Lee Park, Baltimore, however, geographically, and in terms of what it sounds like you do, that is worlds away, so I refer you back to the first link I posted, http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/
What area of Maryland are you interested in?
I would HIGHLY recommend Assateague!! It is so beautiful. And the wild ponies are so cute. It’s really fun to camp there. You can go the the park’s web site and make reservations. Or it’s fun just for a day trip, and you could stay in a hotel in nearby Ocean City. It’s fun just to hike up and down the beach, or on trails through woods on the bay side of the island. The weather should be perfect later this month. Have a picnic. The beach is so pristine, and if you walk down the shore a ways, you will find yourself totally alone on the beach, perhaps with some wild ponies. It’s one of my favorite places to go!
Maryland has a little bit of everything, mountians, beaches, metropolitan area’s. DC is a do-able drive from most parts of the state and there are enough monuments & museums there to gag any tourist.
