War Protesters Trash 9/11 Memorial

War Protesters Trash 9/11 Memorial

This is sad and pretty vile, IMO. And, of course, it is not reflective of most anti-War protesters.

Regardlerss of free speech, there is no moral victory to be won in destorying a peaceful memorial.

I’m glad I wasn’t there, lest I would have exercised my right to kick the shit out of them.

Sorry rotten asshat motherfuckin’ pieces of shit. Send the fuckers to Iraq and let them be Saddam’s fecal receptors.

I don’t understand the reasoning from the cop quoted in the story:

Since when does free speech extend to the destruction of private property? How is it not vandalism? This is totally baffling.

But then again, we are talking about California, here.

“War is bad, dude, but tearing up someone else’s stuff is okie-dokie”

I guess violence is only wrong when it’s used against dictators.

:frowning:

That is just sick.

Maybe it’s because I’m a Californian, but I do think there’s a fundamental difference between “tearing up someone else’s stuff” and killing thousands, perhaps millions of people. I agree what they did was wrong and damaged their own cause, but it’s not war.

Typical. Morons leading morons to do moronic things for moronic reasons. Under Moronic circumstances.

Say hi to Saddam when you see him! Tell him we are coming!

D

I was going to write some smart-ass, sarcastic post, but I just can’t. This act disgusts me. It astonishes and saddens me that these grubby, addled fools vilify a nation that affords them the freedom to desecrate a memorial to the victims of the worst terrorist act in American history. What on earth did they think to gain from such a despicable act?

Who said it was? You don’t get to play the Tu quoque game here–desecrating a memorial is a wicked act, period, and you don’t get to minimize it by comparing it to war.

Of COURSE there’s a fundemental difference. There’s also a fundemental difference between the “killing thousands, perhaps millions of people” and the killing of a single person. That doesn’t mean you can justify murder by saying “at least it’s not war.”
Likewise, you cannot justify the wanton destruction of property by saying “it’s better than what the other side is doing.” That doesn’t make it right.

Gobear: Ender with 50% less verbage.

What a bunch of assholes. Destroying children’s artwork to make a political statement? My high school biology teacher was right–some people are just plain stupid.

It will be beyond sad if other “protestors” decide it’s OK to express their opinions this way. I want to believe other protestors are smarter than that though.

What does tu quoque mean?

[sub]If friedo ever gets yelled at by gobear, he wants to actually understand how he’s being insulted.[/sub]

It’s a Latin phrase meaning “you, too”. A tu quoque fallacy is used to dismiss an opponent’s argument by turning an accusation back on the critic, like the argument offered by TWDuke.

Idiot.

I knew a lot of idiot, asshole activists back in college; this sounds exactly like something some of them would do. God, it pissed me off when these fools would fuck up someone’s property, pretending that they were making a legitimate political statement by doing so.

I’m not a purist: I definitely think there are times that guerilla political action, including property damage, is appropriate and called-for. But this is obviously not one of those times.

Daniel

I’m really not anti-police officer, but WTF were those cops doing just standing there and watching people commit obvious acts of vandalism?

I call bullshit on this one. If a guy is beating a car with a sledgehammer, cops can’t do anything without a complaint? Throwing rocks through windows… A-OK until a complaint is filed? This is just bizarre. Good thing the guy wasn’t away on vacation, his entire property could be reduced to rubble and police would just watch.
