21 wins and counting, towards my Primal Combatant achievement. It’s like pulling teeth. But I’m going to get there one of these days.
A decent weekend for me. Sartharion dropped the Twilight Drake and Malygos dropped the Azure. I tried Onyxia but she wasn’t being generous. Other than that, I have my lvl 100 farming magic items from solo dungeons for gold…I got all of my main-body and weapon heirlooms, now I have to buy the level extensions for all of them…I’m not bothering with the trinkets and such.
I managed to clean out Naxx before the Tonys started last night, anyway. Reset’s tomorrow for all the raids.
Congrats to everyone.
I had last week off from work and played a buttload. I gained about 700 achievement points and acquired about 10 mounts, 6 pets, and 10 Eng/JC recipes. I also had the unbelievable good fortune of getting Thori’dal, The Stars’ Fury and the offhand Warglaive of Azzinoth within a 24hr period. My first legendaries! I still need to grind out Black Temple rep, so fingers crossed that I can complete the set.
Patch 6.2 hits US servers next week, June 23.
Here’s some info on the main features:
Tanaan Jungle
Garrison Shipyards
Bonus Events and Timewalking Dungeons
Profession updates
Unlocking flying in Draenor
Raid: Hellfire Citadel
My observations based on the info so far:
They’re pulling players out of the garrisons by offering the latest tier’s garrison-like services only in the Tanaan Jungle forward camp.
They decided gathering skills needed to be relevant again by making the level 5 and 6 crafted epic upgrades depend on reagents collected mining/skinning/herbing, and not trapping infinite numbers of elite beasties for your level 3 farm. I’ll admit I saw that and panicked, because I’ve been neglecting my gathering toons in favor of crafting toons, and none of them were level 100 yet. (Just got one dinged there this weekend (skinner); now it’s a scramble to get him geared to survive Tanaan, cuz greens and quest blues probably won’t cut it. Plus leveling up the others: two miners and two herbalists. From 4 levels to go to 8, among those four toons.)
Faction-specific dailies. Looks like someone took a lesson from the horrid grind-fest which is Grinning Scull orc/Sha’tari Defense. Getting a decent-sized slice of rep from a quest turn-in always felt less futile and interminable than getting 4 here, 12 there from killing individual creatures for hours on end.
Tying Draenor flying to capping reputations with three of the four factions: seems like tying a particularly juicy porkchop onto the neck of one hella ugly kid. Rep grinds are almost the least fun part of the game, and it seems like Blizz wants to validate their faction-related design choices by linking a truly desirable feature to those. Oh, well, I’ll probably do it. Because flying.
Unless they changed things recently (and I’m sure I’d have heard the screaming) you only have to get halfway (Revered) to capping 3 of the reps. So not quite as bad.
Fair cop, I may have misinterpreted what I read. But the difference between Revered and Exalted isn’t germane to folks who have no desire to grind reputations at all beyond what you get by raiding or questing normally, so there’s a degree of incentivization there.
Also helpful: Things you should do before 6.2
I already had Loremaster of Draenor on my main, and I finally got around to fully exploring Draenor yesterday.
I finally scraped together my 40 victories for the Primal Combatant achievement this week, and got myself a handsome Vicious Warsaber mount.
Very proud of that mount!
Oops, I forgot to mention that I finally picked up The Oceanographer achievement. I only needed two fish, the Large Raw Mightfish and the Summer Bass, both of which can be fished in the Blasted Lands. I caught the Summer Bass on my 2nd or 3rd cast, but it took another 20 minutes of fishing to land a Mightfish. Geez, those things are scarce!
Question about garrison bodyguards: If I’m out fighting with Delvar Ironfist by my side, and he manages to get himself killed, and I have to wait an hour to use him again, can I go back to my garrison, assign Defender Ilona to the Barracks (assuming she’s not on a mission), and continue on with her until Delvar is ready again?
Grats! That achievement with the seasonal fish was always an enthusiasm killer. (“Yaay, caught all the fish I need except for the Winter Squid! Wowhead time to figure out where to fish for these! Oh, damn, I have to wait till October!”)
That works. Only that particular bodyguard (Delvar, in your case) is on timeout. Swap out at the drafting table and you can carry on with a different bodyguard. (Just don’t forget to swap back if you were focusing on leveling the first one.)
Funny thing is, I think Delvar died because he was standing in the fire. We were at the Broken Precipice, and I found a rope & grappling hook that would take us to the top of a tower. There were only three orc grunts at the top, and they should have been no trouble, except one of them rushed at Delvar straight through the big fire at the top of the tower and Delvar ended up standing right in it. I think. I finished off two of the orcs, and when I looked around the third orc was dead, and so was Delvar.
Other than getting overwhelmed (and accidentally chain-pulling in crowded areas), my bodyguards often die from lava.
Lava. Why did it have to be lava?
Is mistweaver/brewmaster viable with the new gear system? I’m thinking of coming back.
I can only answer second-hand. (Don’t play either in current content; have LFRd with several in their respective raid roles.)
Both seem to work OK as far as I can tell. I actually like working with a brewmaster tank; it seems they often need less healing, meaning I (pew-pewing from the back row) can get more healing when I need it.
It seems (to my recollection) that I need to use personal healing or mitigation less when a panda is tanking, but take that with a grain of salt.
Never a complaint about mistweaver healing either, other than the problems not unique to a monk healer, like inattention or just being bad. Which is definitely not class-specific.
This is a very neat thread. I just started playing after a long break (ten years?). So some questions if anyone has the time:
I play a Horde rogue and I really enjoy the PVP. I thought I was fairly decent at it until I hit level 100 a couple of days ago.
The BG’s at level 100 seem very equipment dependent. What’s the best way to get equip for pvp? Get Honor Points and then turn them in in Warspear for 620 level equip?
Then Conquest Points…Ashran seems very odd to me. It’s not traditional pvp insofar as it’s a mad free for all. I manage to get an ancient artifact in one of my first rambles there (purely by chance) and I killed a good few Alliance players. That being said, Ashran seems confusing to me but is it the only way to get CP’s?
And it does seem that it’s touhger for the Horde in pvp.
Oh I tend to play solo and I am not in a guild.
I mean more do I have to maintain two gear sets. I know stats magically switch with spec now. I’m talking purely pre-raid (maybe pre-heroic) gear, where things matter less. One nice thing about BM/WW was that the same gear roughly worked for both, but because of the new system I’m wondering if BM/WW is viable.
Alas, no insight. You may be able to figure it out by comparing gear lists for the different specs (such as at Icy Veins) and seeing how much overlap there is.
Although I’ll say I never would have conflated “viable” with “only one gear set required”. I remember when you’d have to keep at least 3 situational gear sets handy (one for day-to-day pve, one for pvp, one for raiding/instancing… like resist-special sets). But it’s a different game now, I guess.
Sorry to say that all I can add is agreement that Horde PVP is difficult. I’m in the Ruin battlgroup and I’m working on exalted reps and a few PVP achievements, and they’ve been quite a slog. I just need the Children’s Day PVP achievement to get the World Event meta and Violet Proto-Drake, and I couldn’t finish it this year.
Did some play though 6.2 last night. The update was only 2.4GB and it downloaded quickly. I got my shipyard set up and have 2 ships, which I sent on a mission before logging off. I unlocked Tanaan Jungle and did the first 5 or so quests.
I’m trying to play as much as possible now to take advantage of the maximum interest in the zone. I managed to stumble upon Deathtalon with another player already fighting him, and a third player joined us almost immediately. This kind of thing won’t happen in a few months, and since you need other players’ help for these things, now is the time.
