Yes, even parts of the south do get cool in the chill of night, and you should start up a fire....
Good places to get the hands warm are places where large blood vessels like the superior and inferior vena cava (Cavae?) are close to the surface. That’s why you put your hands under your arms… the SVC is there, the femorals and IVC are down on the upper inner thigh, just put your hands down there and things get get warmer in a hurry…

I can vouch for that. In North Alabama it is currently 29 degrees and dropping. I’ve got a fire going, and it’s nice and toasty. The dogs like it.
