First the Warning:
If you use the very useful and very good XP Repair function it will cause DVD Xcopy to no longer work. As 321 Studios is out of business I am now out of luck.
Now questions and some details.
Does anyone know how to re-register a legal copy of DVD Xcopy Xpress?
I have the License and the Password but I cannot get the Reg from 321 Studios of course.
If you don’t know about the XP repair function it is excellent for fixing DLL problems and OP systems that have degraded with time.
This is for **power users ** more than light users and should **never ** be done at work without permission.
**It will set you back to whatever service pack level your XP Disk is at. **
These are some useful steps to fix many XP problems.
Ensure your Bios is set to boot from CD first, Hard drive 2nd.
*(This varies too much to give instructions) *
Use Start-Run type in MSCONFIG hit Enter and go to the startup TAB.
This tab shows all programs that start automatically at startup. Remove most of these unless you really want it to run.
Insert the XP installation CD that was used on your PC so the License matches.
Re-Boot and watch for the message “Hit any button to boot from CD”
Hit any button, Space Bar works quite well
Win XP will load messages, ignore messages until it asks you to hit F8 to confirm.
When it asks if you want to reload or repair hit Reload. This will then look for the current installation of XP.
At the next screen it will ask to Install or Repair the current XP.
…Pick R to repair. This will take 30-60 minutes unless your PC is under a Gigahertz.
It will eventually ask for the 25 character License Product Key and a few settings.
When it completes you need to keep running windows update until you are back up to Windows XP SP2.
Hope that helps some people.
Hope someone has some ideas for the Xcopy Xpress.
