That’s a very good point. Who wants to get fired or arrested because a co-worker messed with someone’s food or stole something from a customer?
There’s a black hole joke somewhere here…
Actually, you may be on to something, with all your access to coal. Make money AND destroy DeBeers. Win-win!
Wow, really? What she did was so petty and mean that you’ve forgotten about it? One would think that if she did something bad enough to cause you to commit grand theft, the details would stick with you. Suggestion: Next time you consider committing a felony, ask yourself if the offense is something you’re even going to remember in a few years. And if not, ask yourself if it’s worth doing hard time for.
Even better, ask yourself this – if you need your job so badly that you can’t stand up for yourself, if committing your petty acts of secret terrorism is going to result in a promotion.
I worked as a waiter for years. I never messed with anyones food or saw anyone mess with anyones food.
Although I do insult stupid people by saying “Wow, you probably piss off the waitress BEFORE she brings you your food, eh?”
Aaaand my membership is worth the money I spent x 100. And it’s only May!
No need.
It seems odd to me, though. I’m 46 years old and have worked 8 years in retail, plus 6 years in the military (most of that also in customer service). And, in the 23 years I’ve been a housewife, I’ve dealt a good deal with retail customer service from the customer side, in addition to dealing with school and medical personnel for myself and my kids, and volunteer positions for other military dependents, and so on.
So I haven’t exactly lived an isolated life, or been quarantined from irritating people. But I can honestly say that, if anyone had ever pissed me off to the degree that I would consider throwing something valuable of theirs into a dumpster on purpose so they’d have to dig through garbage to retrieve it, I would certainly remember what they’d done.
And you say (earlier in the thread) that you have to mete out ‘justice’ of some kind about once a month? That is mind-boggling to me. In my entire life, I’ve only met a handful of people so irritating that I’d maybe fantasize about fucking with them a bit. Frankly, if you are meeting that many assholes, maybe you need to think about what you’re putting out to get that sort of reaction from that many people.
Banquet Bear, that was an outstanding post.
Shamozzle Whoa, you threw away someone’s engagement ring? I hope someone beats you down randomly, and the memory seaps into your mind while you are wondering what you did to deserve it. Fuck man, some things are sacred.
There’s an even vaguer concordance with post #247.
Way to go, Jodi. Now you’ve given that flinging monkey Shamozzle a futher idea on how to to mess with food a customer’s food.
Seconded. Every once in a while, a post comes along that humbles me and makes me reevaluate my petty work bullshit complaints.
This was such a post.
What was turning into a shitty day that may have made for a shitty weekend was just turned on its head. Kudos to you sir. I’ll toast you one.
As an aside, I would like to ask you, my fellow Dopers, to do me a favor. If I’m ever in a position of drawing the ire of Jodi, please stop me before the Pit starts. Her wrath is immense! I’d never heard of this Schlemeel (sp?) character before and would rather not face her venom.
I love you Jodi. If I ever piss you off, can we just talk about it?
Yeh, damn straight Jodi rocks, duffer. I’m frequently grateful to find myself on her side of an argument, since it means (a) I’m not going to suffer one of her exquisite smackdowns, and (b) I don’t have to come up with a brilliant, incisive post because she’s already done it so I can just sit back, read and enjoy.
And #256. Thanks for mentioning me, though!
Thank you, Banquet Bear, for restoring my faith in the hospitality industry. Excellent post.
**VC03 **and Shamozzle, I hope both of you grow up some day, find peace and regret what you have done. I also hope you get caught doing your stupid shit and punished appropriately.
Like VC03, I’ve spent a substantial amount of time in the food service industry. And in that time, the things I’ve seen would make you… react with boredom. Most of the vitriol experienced and commented upon is against the owners or managers of the food service establishment. When customers are assholes, it’s enough to simply call them assholes. The pleasure is not in getting back at them, but is simply in acknowledging that they are being an ass.
VC03 is either a liar, or is doing the spitting himself. Either way, he is pathetic. The only thing that may differ is exactly why he’s pathetic.
Because to me, he’s violated the “Don’t be a Jerk” rule time and again, not to mention most of the time, he’s within a hair’s width of trolling.
…Brainiac4, Morbo and LunaV thank you all for your kind words.
Although it appears we have scared Shamozzle from this thread…
Maybe, but unlike most trolls–if that is what he is–he’s got a lot to contribute in Cafe Society. I’d rather see his BS threads ignored than see him banned.
Hijack: What’s this Wild Sargasso Sea business? I assume it’s a book, but I’ve never heard of it. Is it good?
