Warped kids show

Okay, out of all the people in my age group that I’ve mentioned this to, none of them can remember it, but I do, and I don’t know what the name of the show was, or even really what it was about, and this bothers me because the only thing I can remember about it is so totally twisted.

I remember watching a kids show when I was very little (say two or three) and the central character was a guy who I think was a cartoonist of some kind, or something similar as I remember him sitting at a drawing table and talking to the camera. There were at least two puppet characters in the show. The two I remember were brothers who lived in the basement of a townhouse and talked to the central character from their street level window. They even appeared in a cartoon on the show (more on this later).

The thing I remember about the show is the central character leaning over his drawing board and talking about the two puppets who lived in the basement. He said, “You know [puppet one’s name] and [puppet two’s name] have never seen their parents? They locked them in the basement when [puppet one’s name] and [puppet two’s name] were very little and the only thing they see of their parents is their ankles when their parents stand at the top of the stairs and throw food down to them.” (You can see why that stuck in my head.)

The cartoon of the puppets consisted solely of their eyes in the darkened basement as they walked into things and had other problems. Anybody else remember this show and happen to know what it was called?

I think i’m wrong…but maybe fraggle rock?

Or maybe a nightmare mixed with a show? Nahh, that sounds too complex for a little kid’s nightmare.

I don’t know. Trying to help.

Definately not Fraggle Rock. I should have mentioned that this would have aired in the early 70s (say around 71 or 72), also not a nightmare. (I remember one from that time period and its got a different “flavor” for lack of a better term.)

Warped kids shows? Well, I remember one that was supposedly one of those educative ones. It was apparently supposed to teach kids about digestive channel, but most of what it contained was cartoon animals pooping around.

It was in Swedish. Figures.

Gigglesnort Hotel?

Except that show had a dragon living in the basement and two birds living upstairs. And, of course, the Blob.

THAT was a warped show.

Tuckerfan: Sounds like you may be thinking of My World and Welcome to It. William Windom played a magazine cartoonist based on James Thurber.

I don’t remember any puppets and I would call it quirky or skewed rather than weird but Windom’s character frequently addressed the camera over his easel.

The link includes an affectionate review.

could this have been a local show?
where were you when you were watching this show?

I remember a show from my childhood called Capt’n Jinx and Salty Sam, but if unless you grew up in central Illinios, you would never had heard of it.

Nope, not it. The guy who was the central character in it was fairly young (like his 20s), which Windom wouldn’t have been even then. Might have been a local show, but I doubt it. It was pretty slickly produced and most of the local shows at that time weren’t. I grew up just outside of Columbus, OH, and I think it was on Channel 10 (pre-cable days), but I don’t know.
