Eazy-E is probably best remembered as the most famous mainstream rapper to die of AIDS. In an era where the majority of rap stars engaged in unsafe sex practices with a lot of women, it seems odd that Eazy is the only victim.
As heterosexual AIDS has turned out to be largely exaggerated in America, is it likely that Eazy engaged in homosexual behavior?
On a person note, Eazy always had a particularly “gay” vibe to me; the overly-coiffed Jheri Curl, the higher and more effeminate voice, and his general demeanor. He was often the target of gay disses by other rappers.
It is odd that he’s the only (I think) famous person to die of it who wasn’t gay, and there was never an explanation for how he got it- needle drugs not being big with those of his time and place. But he claimed to have seven kids by six different women, or six kids by seven different women, one of the two. And anyone who takes shots at his friend Dr. Dre, the first one is always “he’s gay”, so who knows.
I don’t know if the way he wore his hair or sang is a good qualifier for being a gay rapper. Snoop’s voice can be pretty high, if not at least soft. And the Jeri Curl thing seems more like a “pimp” thing. Quoth Snoop “I drive a Cadillac, wear my perm and am a G/ and I’m a m*fn’ P I M P.”
What do you think of Andre 3000? He’s more pretty than Easy E could ever be, but I’ve never heard anyone call him gay.
Dude, what about Dr. Dre? Clearly you haven’t been keeping up with him. He has a song that mentions Easy-E dying, and that came out when I was in high school.
But it didn’t come out when I was in high school which was up until 1991 which is basically when my music maturity level came to a smashing halt. I picked up a few new musical interests in college like Nirvana and they have done well but that was about it. I was honestly hurt by this Easy-E news. I use some of his lines like “Jock’n the Bitches, Slappin the Hoes” as an inspiration. Now I know that he didn’t really appreciate bitches or hoes and that line referred to homosexual angst instead of a man at the top of his game.
I don’t think Easy-E could keep any gayness low enough on the low down to keep it a secret. He and his crew had plenty of enemies and somebody would have outed him.
I think he probably just fucked A LOT of women who had fucked A LOT of other guys. It was the 80’s, it happened a lot. I’m hella surprised that more straight rock & rollers haven’t died of AIDS.
