Was Sigmund Freud afraid of this?

I’ve read a few times now that “Sigmund Freud had a morbid fear of ferns…”

It’s probably just the way it’s written that makes it sound so ridiculous, but I was wondering if it really was true.

This is a tough one. The claim is made (repeated) on countless useless trivia web sites, but not on any reputable Freud site that I visited, not on any of the enyclopedia sites, and not on any of the academic abstract sites.

The only thing I found that even mentioned ferns was from Freud’s own The Interpretation of Dreams, Chapter One.

I think you might have uncovered an urban legend.

Hey, don’t knock it. Wet ferns are dangerous: you can get seriously sliced up by them…
