I seem to remember such a thread recently, but I can’t find it?
Did it go …
“And the sailors say Brandy
You’re a fine girl
What a good wife you would be
That’s why I’ve got
This bottle of chloroform
With me”
Barnacle Bill?
I don’t recall a question about such a song, nor did I see one in a quick search. If I had come across such a question, I would certainly have mentioned The Dark Lady–the pirate captain takes a young woman for ransom, then falls in love with her. It’s one of my favorite pirate songs (although I modify the last verse and chorus a bit when I sing it).
Oh Captor, you make me laugh.
maybe it was on another board I frequent. Thanks for the comments, everyone.
“The Island: Come and See/The Landlord’s Daughter/You’ll Not Feel the Drowning” by the Decemberists is a three-part song about a historical rogue (possibly a pirate captain) who kidnaps a girl… and does worse things than that.
