Was there a cut of The Last Samurai with a sex scene?

I recently rewatched The Last Samurai - a very decent film - but I recall that when I first saw it there was a sex scene between Algren and Taka - or did he just see her nude?

Or am I just suffering a Middle Age Moment?

I saw the movie in the theater and I do not remember a sex scene.

There was only the very sensual scene of Taka taking off his robes and putting on his armor as he rode alongside her brother against the United States.

EDIT: And he did see her prior to that showering in a waterfall or lake, but only saw her from behind, above the waist and she promptly covered herself.

It is so strange that you say this because I remember a sex scene from this movie as well, but watching the film again, it isn’t there. Perhaps it is a Mandala Effect.

When it came out I was writing a movie review each month for our monthly staff newsletter. I reviewed it and referenced the dressing scene by writing something like, “the movie also contains the most sedate sex scene ever filmed.” Several people later contacted me to complain that there wasn’t any sex scene at all.
