I’m curious to know if my country only protects others for strategic reasons or if there is a hint of altruism anywhere in our actions.
I’m not aware of any strategic reasons to be in Somalia. They were starving, we were sending food, but some in the country were not letting the food get to the starving people. We thought we could send troops to be like security guards to get it there. Contrast this with Rwanda, where the people were slaughtering each other, but no one could think of a way to use our military force to stop it.
