Are there any photos of her around from when she first met John?
Mai Pang was hot.

Mai Pang was hot.
Even when she first hooked up with John we was not exactly hot, but she was fairly good looking and apparently very engaging intellectually to John Lennon.

She will be when she burns in HELL!!
Not only not hot, but also not very attractive.
That is post Beatle break-up. I dimly recall a picture of here in a mini-dress at Apple Studios where I would go with fairly good looking.

I would never classify her as anything but butt-ugly. At any time in her life.
She doesn’t look horrible in that pic. You’re a bit of a harsh judge.
There was one portrait I saw of her, in which she not only looks not bad but she actually looks in this particular portrait quite beautiful.
There was a special issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, the issue had nothing in it but portraits (photo portraits). The special issue was in celebration of some anniversary, sometime in the early to mid-ninties. It was not a collection of previously collected portraits, rather it was an issue featuring all new portraits taken specially for the anniversary issue. There were, maybe six or seven, photographers who participated, each of whom did portraits of several people from the world of music.
So, this would have been Yoko of the ninties, much older than when she met John. It really was a beautiful portrait, black and white, extreme close-up.
Can’t find the photo through Google (I tried “Yoko Ono” “Rolling Stone”, “Yoko Ono” Portrait, and just plain old “Yoko Ono”). I did find one black and white extreme close-up, but it cuts the left side of her face. The portrait I remember showed her whole face.
She was to John Lennon and that’s all that really matters, isn’t it?
In the eye of the beholder. People think this guy is hot (shudder). Not my cup o’tea but I’m likely not his.
In this image I’d say she comes off the cuter of the two but again, à chaqu’un son goût.
Most certainly.
Just one of those, “public figures up for public scrutiny” kinda things.
They truly had a fascinating relationship. The fact that the woman chosen by a man who could have had his pick of millions of women, was herself not a conventional beauty adds to the fascintation of it all.
She must have been very hot when she did the “Two Virgins” cover.
Never very good looking. But that only raises John Lennon in my estimation. When you can have any number of ‘hot chicks’, it’s nice to see someone not give a damn about looks.
Unfortunately, she was also obnoxious and pretentious. But then, so was John as he grew older.
The whole granola look is not very becoming, IMO. Of course, I grew up in the 80’s where nothing was subte. I actually credit both Lennon and McCartney for marrying women who were not model pretty. It made me believe that they loved them for their mind. Or perhaps it was the drugs.
I always thought she was a handsome woman. But I always thought she couldn’t sing. If I had to choose between her and bagpipes, I guess my head would explode.
I would wager this term was coined specifically because of YO, as she was both physically, and, unfortunately for Beatles fans, spiritually.
In this shot, she isn’t so bad. I don’t know if you’d go so far as to say hot, because I’m a chick and therefore a bad judge of such things, but I suspect there are plenty of folks who wouldn’t have thrown her out of bed for eating crackers.
Was Yoko ever hot?
Yoko? Oh, no.
Yet another similarity between Lennon and McCartney.

To me, hot has to do not just with appearance, but with attitude. A hot woman likes men and sex (or women and sex, if she’s gay). And on both counts, I say “O no” to Yoko. But I never knew her personally. John may have had personal evidence that belied her public persona.
I remember a local DJ back in the '80s saying that he had the pleasure of meeting Yoko once. He agreed that photos of her are not particularly becoming, but in person, she was one of the sexiest women he’d ever met.
