Watch-a-long Oscar thread

Damn, I was pulling for Capturing the Friedmans.

That’s okay, I never agree with prevailing opinion. For example, they all loved Nicole Kidman this year, but I think she looks like a sack full of clothes hangers and always does in awards shows. (In her films, she looks terrific.)

Politics well received. Wow.

Oprah – The Color Purple.

Errol Morris – conniption fit or nervous breakdown? You be the judge…

(I think he fell down a rabbit hole. Definitely out of control…)

Hey, THE FOG OF WAR! Let’s see if Errol gives the big political speech the producers are dreading…

Yep, there he goes. Pretty mild, though, and non-offensive. Classy.

“I can’t wait for his tax audit” goes Billy. Sheesh.

Relative, perhaps?

Two hours fifteen minutes to first political statements. Not too bad.

Wow, that’s it? 10:45 and I haven’t missed a major award? How late does this damned thing run?

Let me check my calendar…

You missed Supporting Actor and Actress, which are pretty major.

And now a separate memorial for Gregory Peck

Nope, not just Greg, it’s THE CALVACADE OF THE DEAD!! Hankies ahoy!

I know that Oprah won for “The Color Purple” I guess I just didn’t expect to see her, since she hasn’t done anything all that recently. Julie Andrews is there though, and I don’t suppose it’s for “The Princess Diaries,” I was just surprised that Oprah was presenting.

TeaElle, I think I read that the awards will be re-run tomorrow on Bravo at 10 eastern/9 central. There might be another channel that is going to replay them, but I can’t remember, some other cable channel.
Death Tribute: took a while for some of the folks clapping to realize they probably didn’t want to applaud a Nazi.

There is no separate tribute for Gregory Peck? I understand there are time constraints but I would think he is in the same league as Hope and Hepburn.

Leni Riefenstahl just had to be included, of course. Fish and fascists, she’s unforgettable.

Mmm, the slowish-confused clapping for Leni Reifenstal and (to some degree) Eliza Kazan, very interesting.

I didn’t know Robert Stack died, and I’d forgotten about Gregory Hines . <sob!>

You could practically hear people tying to work out if they should clap or not when it came to Kahn and Reifenstahl!

Always makes me a bit sad when there is somone they dont clap for cos they don’t know who it is… not much fun to be that persons family. The classy thing to do is to keep up a sustained clap for the whole thing with a few especially eager claps.

AWESOME! The Tiger/Caddyshack commercial rocked! Danny! Sit down, Danny!

I was with Dopers on the Woodlawn Cemetery walk, actually, when we found out about Gregory Hines. We happened to be standing in the jazz greats section, near Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, etc. etc.

But Gregory is buried in Oakville, Ontario (thanks, findagrave.com!)

Doh, by Kahn I meant Kazan, 5am here, gimme a break!

I too had forgotten that Gregory Hines died :frowning: and didn’t know about that little red-headed guy, always liked him in films.
