Watch Bald Eagle eggs hatch

One of the parents just arrived back at the nest with a big stick! Because what the nest needs is more sticks, apparently.

Ya gotta keep those kids in line.

If it wasn’t the eagles poaching a few fish it would be some other wildlife - I seriously doubt the eagles are the only ones grabbing a snack. I also seriously doubt that two adults and three babies are really going to have that much effect on a trout hatchery that probably has thousands of fish. Sure, annoying, but not much real effect in the long run. They probably have more fish die off from natural causes or even eat each other than the eagles take. Keep in mind, too, the presence of eagles may discourage other potential fish predators, perhaps having them around actually keeps predation lower than without them

I like the way the parent will sit with the babies poking out looking around.

Yeah, it’s getting difficult to keep them contained.

Edit: Looks like Papa has his wing right across the neck of one of them!

Wow. The sun is actually shining. I was beginning to wonder whether that ever happened in Decorah.

Yeah, around this time of year, everyone in the midwest is starting to doubt the existence of the sun… :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow. Mum and Dad just went absolutely berserk for a couple of minutes. Obviously there was something out there in the dark that was bothering them.

They brought home another muskrat late yesterday afternoon.

Oop - time for a changing of the guard.

I just read in the chat window (first time I’ve even seen it come up in several days) that there was an owl in the vicinity last night. That probably caused the commotion.

I haven’t been able to watch much recently; they keep expecting me to do stuff here at work. The eaglets sure are getting big!

Here is a link to the Owl Incident. Is this what you saw, Cunctator?

The Children are home alone.

How bad do you figure it smells up there right now?

The biggest of the chicks just took a projectile shit that flew three feet out of the nest. I thought it was poking around in the bottom of the nest, but it was really aligning it’s butt for the movement.

Anytime you see what appears to be chicks all alone and on their own - it’s a pretty good guess that there is a parent eagle perched very close by, just out of camera sight!

Yes

At one point yesterday you could see all the flies feeding on the carcasses.

I’ve seen them do that several times. It explains why the nest isn’t full of bird crap!

I just it happen-came damn close to coating the camera lens! :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow they are getting big! Have not checked in for a couple of days and I have a great view of all three chicks sleeping with their heads down in a little eaglet-pile. Mom, I think, just flew away but I am sure she is not far off camera. Even just sleeping, they are still totally cool!
Boy, they sure seem to have big feet already!
