I’ve seen convincing reasons for anti-Americanism (or whatever you want to call it). People who have legitimate beefs with our government structure, often citing Bush v. Gore, or who think that our military policy is deplorable. You know.
Then there’s lobley, the 1.5 trick pony.
Imagine someone dragging a big rock to the edge of the lake. Then with all his strength, he picks up the rock, and shouting “Heave ho!” tosses it in the middle of the lake. Then he is surprised to find the water ripples.
“But water generally doesn’t ripple when you throw rocks into it!”
So, lobley seems to have gotten his routine down solid. He’ll start by saying “Americans are [insert stereotype here].” Then when people start responding by saying “Generalizations are stupid,” “Why don’t we generalize the brits,” or “Please remove your head from your posterior before posting again,” he’ll start babbling about how “useful” generalizations are.
“I’ve been on usenets and chat rooms!” he’ll say. As we all know, the criteria for becoming a sociologist never exceeds hearing people spew sentence-fragments in real time.
And what happens when people point out what a waste of carbon he is? He says “well, duh, I know you’re all hurt but hiding it.”

Summing up your whole “America is stupid” argument based on pointless vague stereotypes makes you look like a stupid idiot. You’re not being flamed because of “American ego,” you’re not being flamed for “pointing out a fact,” you’re being flamed for being a complete and utter cockwaffle. Guess what? There are people in the USA who aren’t patriots! Guess what? There ARE people in the USA who aren’t slack-jawed gun-totin’ drawlin’ hay farmers! It’d be nice if you saw them, but I’m sure you’ve seen enough Americans from behind your computer monitor to make solid, definite conclusions.
