Watching the World Series

First of all, from one in No. California, how is this playing in the rest of the country? Does anybody west of the Mississippi care?

Assuming you do:

As a long time die-hard Giants fan, it pains me to say this (and this may just be 40 years of fatalism speaking), but the Giants are doomed.

They got here on a roll, produced by hot streaks from Benito Santiago and Russ Ortiz. But Benito has faded in the Series, and Ortiz is back to his early-season self. Jason Schmidt may win game 5, but I don’t think the Giants can come up with enough hitting to counter the Angels–who are, as they say, relentless.

We’ll probably see Barry go deep a few more times, as the Angels will pitch to him as long as they have an insurmountable lead.

I’ve been wondering just the opposite.

Ah, crap. East, west…you know what I mean.

I sure care here in Toronto.

I wouldn’t count the Giants out just yet. Yeah, the Angels are red hot, and I did pick them to win. But they are not actually a 10-run-a-game team; this hot streak with the bats is not their real level of ability (hell, it’s NOBODY’S real level of ability.) They’ve been beaten before and can be beaten again.

I’m thrilled to watch. The Giants beat my Cardinals, and now it’s two wild card teams. I’m thinking, “Who can do a Cinderella story any better than a Disney team?”

I’m annoyed that it’s screwing up the schedule and pushing back shows like Smallville.

No televised sporting event should run more then 3 hours.

Series tied. Giants win 4-3. Is the OP ready to eat crow yet?

Go Giants!

PS – There are many annoying things about fox’s coverage. Chief among them is the way they obscure the count with the mph of the pitch when every pitch is thrown. Why don’t they move the mph slightly right and cover the “mlb on fox” logo for a second instead, and let us see the count? It’s not like we are likely to forget that we are watching mlb and doing so on fox for a brief second or two.

I’ve liked this series so far. I’m not rooting for either side, really. I like Rodriguez and his slider. And Nen. And Bonds is pretty good too.

Dusty Baker sometimes confounds me. He did some really wacky things in the playoff series in 2000 -v- the Mets. Jeff “K” Kent is quite the underachiever. The Giants have relied on Santiago to come through - and he has.

Why did the LA Angels change to Anaheim Angels anyways? Anaheim is sorta like Orlanda of CA. I absitively despise those whacking-stix.

Generally I’d go with the NL team as they play the purer form of Baseball. That was easy the last couple years. And (heh heh), those Angels pitchers can handle the bat, eh?

I want it to go to seven, and have more matchups with 20-year-old Rodriguez -v- 38-year Bonds.

World Series Striking Out in Early TV Ratings

I don’t remember the name of the 20 year old reliever that the Angels have, but that kid can throw some serious stuff. I’ve liked the series so far. Originally being born in Frisco, I’m kinda pulling for the Giants. And yes, you can call it Frisco if you work for a living.

The World Series is playing?

California sports never interested me.

Smallville is broadcast on FOX in Canada on Monday or Wednesday? Odd…

The OP would love to eat crow (die hard Giants fan), but is still cautious. For the Giants to win, either Russ Ortiz or Livan Hernandez (or both, if Schmidt loses tonight) has to win a big game on the road. The prospect doesn’t fill me with confidence.

There are so many annoying things about Fox…

  1. The “whoosh-zoom” every time they show a replay.
  2. Making the casts of their primetime shows go to the game and sit together (at gunpoint no doubt), so they can plug their series without burning valuable commercial time.
  3. How come with all the cameras they bring to a game, they didn’t get one decent shot of Bonds’ HR off Percival in game 2? Every replay is the same one, and just shows the ball disappearing into the glare from the lights. I still haven’t seen where it landed.
  4. Tim McCarver.

For Giants fans, Nen is a heart attack waiting to happen. For one of the best closers in the game, he has a lot of blown saves–and even when he doesn’t blow a save, he isn’t happy unless he puts the winning run on base. He has maybe a half-dozen 1-2-3 innings all year. The guy’s killing me.
