Okay, he’s replicating big moments but I’m not sold on the fact that the depth is going to be there. When we’re closer to release and there’s trailers covering the story I might be more convinced.
That was pretty fucking awesome. I recognize most of the shots from individual panels of the series.
And I admit, I’d never before made a connection between the title and Jon Osterman’s father’s profession. It might not have been intentional on Moore’s part, but the guys who made this trailer are milking the hell out of it.
On the seventh (eighth?) viewing, there’s a few things that the fanboys are going to nitpick to goddamn death. Example: When Nite Owl’s skyship bursts from the water, the sluicing runoff looks a little hokey, like the VFX were rushed. Expect the chattering webmonkeys to seize on this and similar flashes in order to brand the movie an imminent failure, even though there’s a full year before the final effects will be generated.
Just wanted to get ahead of the curve, because a movie cannot be this hyped without attracting a backlash. Sure, it might suck. But incompletely rendered effects are not an argument.
Well, the trailer actually gave me a little chill, which is a good sign. There are some details I’ve forgotten, so I’ll be rereading the book during the next year.

Anyone else show it to people unfamiliar with the book?

I’ve never read the book, but how slow do you have to be to not quickly pick up enough to enjoy what looks like a lot of fun?
If I like it, I might read the book.
I never read 300, or Hellboy, but c’mon. I didn’t need to.
I grew up on X-Men, and while I enjoyed the movies, I was a bit bogged down with my mind going “that’s not right, that’s not right, that’s not right, that’s not right!”
If I ever become super rich, I’m going to buy up the rights to all the books I care about just so no one can make anymore schlocky movies out of them. Seriously, fuck this piece of shit. It looks awful.
I read the comic a long time ago, and don’t remember any of it. It’s very popular, but I didn’t really get it. I’m not especially excited to see the movie, and I’m definitely over the glut of superhero movies we’ve been having lately.
But then again, if the reviews come in and it sets the world alight, I’ll probably check it out.
