(I want the action figures Adrian was developing.)
I’m wondering if there’ll be a fast food tie-in, with little Dr. Manhattan figures with every Happy Meal.
And I’m not sure how I’ll feel about it if that happens.
You could come up with some good ones -
Paunchy Nite Owl with every supersize.
Rorshach with bonus finger breaking action. Possibly in cans of Heinz beans.
Silk Spectre 2 with removable costume.
multiple Comedians - flame thrower, bloody face, and retro costume rapist.
Director Snyder says the movie is absolutely, definitely going to be rated R. So probably no kids’ toys.
I always pronounced it Veet. I don’t know if that is right or not.
I’m pretty sure actor Conrad Veidt’s last name was pronounced “Vight,” though I don’t have a cite for it. Even if correct, though, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Adrian Veidt’s last name is pronouned the same as Conrad’s, that’s the pronunciation I use when reading Watchmen.
a-HA! So it is not just me! Okay - good to know.
as for me - I pronounce it “Veet/Vate/Vight” - seriously; I just kinda mentally mumble all three to myself in an unclear mess and keep moving before I let it bog me down…which, as a strategy, is barely a cut above just thinking of him as “V-Guy” or “Unpronounceable World Domination Dude”…
Somehow, “Veet/Vate/Vight” is extra funny coming from WORDman. There’s nothing like a man who uses more words than is neccessary.
You’ve been talking with my wife, haven’t you? Or my co-workers? My friends?
And yeah, logorrhea (link to yourdictionary.com) is a chronic affliction of mine…
Hurm.
Film looks good, pure, righteous.
See it. Or I start breaking fingers.
Your choice.
“Under The Hood” is going to be a bonus feature on the “Tales of the Black Freighter” DVD which is supposed to be released at the same time the movie comes out.
If I understand correctly, that is.
Not reading this thread in case of spoilers… just wanted to say I am on Chapter IV of The Watchmen right now and it is making me really excited for the movie. (I saw the trailer before reading the graphic novel, so my reaction to the trailer was largely ??? WTFglowyblueman!!!
But now… yeah, I’m totally psyched. And FYI this is my first graphic novel unless you count Maus.
ah - but how do you pronounce “Veidt”?
And yeah, I hope the Watchmen buzz gets folks reading the original before/after they see the movie. If that is all the movie does - increase readership for the original - then that’s a good thing.
Really, no votes yet for “vate”? I took that sound as my foregone conclusion when I was reading; interesting.
I’ve decided that I am not going to re-read the GN until after I see the film. (I know it was a mini, but it has been bound long enough to be considered a GN. Plus, most of Dickens’ stuff was serialized!)
The clip has me jonesing to read it, but I don’t want the film competing with the book.
I just re-read it late last year. I can hold off until March. (Of course, each new clip will push me further and further to my bookshelf!)
The German way, with a long ‘‘I’’ – almost like ‘‘Fight’’ but with a sort of ‘‘d’’ and ‘‘t’’ hybrid sound thrown in for the t. I took German once, a long time ago, and the one thing that always sticks with me is the way they pronounce words. To this day I still can’t help but pronounce ‘‘Wagner’’ as ‘‘Fawgner’’ …
UGH…a prequel video game.

I just saw that on Yahoo! news and came running over here to post it. Now this, this, is discouraging news.
Neener, I beat you to it!
Oh, wait. I shouldn’t be proud of that. I agree, it can’t be a good thing.
This thread has caused my desire to read Watchmen to reach critical mass. It’s been mentioned around here often, and I was always somewhat curious, but now I have tracked down a copy and read it. Interestingly enough, the local bookstores have been selling out, so that’s a good sign. Anyway, even after knowing a bit about it in advance, it still kicked my ass all over the place. Watchmen is absolutely outstanding. I’m a bit worried about this proposed different ending mentioned in that EW article. It seems that the bad guy will meet the same fate, but maybe he has a different grand scheme or something? How in the hell is that supposed to work? The one in the book is already gloriously fucked up, and certainly cinematic enough for film. Maybe the original ending was deemed too weird.
