Water Inside a Frig

I have a realitively new frig–about three years old (and of course, the warantee just ran out three months ago). It’s a frost free, with freezer on top and an icemaker. A few days ago, I noticed water on the top shelf (glass) of the frig, and pooled in the bottom, under the vegetable crispers. I soaked it up, only to have it happen again, and yet again.

Any clues as to what is going on? The temperature in both the frig and the freezer compartments seems to be cooling just fine.

Errm, I think you mean a fridge rather than a frig.

When was the last time you defrosted it? If a large mass of ice extends outside the freezer compartment, the higher temperature there will melt it.

Probably never:

Could be that the heater or the fan have died.

Check to make sure the drain on the bottom isn’t blocked or the drain line plugged.

…um, drain?

I did notice that there’s not any water in the little pan under the refrigerator. I don’t think there’s a drain on the bottom, under the vegetable crispers. Anywhere else it could be?

Hmm. I answered someone with a similar problem in this thread. I don’t know if it helped them, but it seems like the same issue.

Thanks. That sounds exactly like my frig. Come to think of it, this all started after I’d moved it from the wall to clean behind it. I wonder if when I moved it back it kinked something? I’ll check tonight.

fridge :smack:

Wow, it’s not a GE is it?

Sounds like the defrost drain is plugged. Locations may vary, but I’ll speak like this anyway… under the freezer is a heater which melts the frost in the freezer compartment. It drains from the freezer into a tray under the freezer. From there it’s to drain via a tube to underneath the fridge, where a fan helps it evaporate. This tube is probably plugged. I wouldn’t be suprised if in a few days your fridge stops getting cold – the water the stays in a tray below the freezer may freeze, stopping the fan that blows cold air to the fridge part.

I took mine all apart, and used a garden sprayer to pressure-force water through it to clean it out. Then liberal amounts of bleach. Careful – I broke the tube around the heater, and had to wait a few days for a new one.

If you’re gonna keep using the four-lettered variant you favor, you might at least change it to frij. At least it is closer phonetically to what you mean.
