In my short time I’ve been here, one fairly recent thread sticks in my mind as a real train wreck. Who can forget the saga of the disabled Dodge Viper drivers

Well, he told me, in an e-mail exchange, that he was a minister, and was trying out his sermons on us. 'Course, I only have his word on that, but IIRC, he did “benefit” us, once a week, with a protracted post (dozens of paragraphs long, always italicized, and replete with scriptural quotes) that could easily have been a sermon.

I remember ChiefScott investigating the urban myth about birds pointing their beaks skywards and drowning from torrential rain.
He did this all from the middle of the ocean on an aircraft carrier, and all through e-mails and the like, reaching various ornithological experts until arriving at the conclusion which turned out to be that seabirds get blown inland by hurricanes, get drenched and often die of exhaustion.
This took place across several threads and remains one of the most impressive ‘staff reports’ ever, partly due to ChiefScott’s sheer tenacity.

Anyone remember Satan and his concern for a ‘star crossed’ couple that involved a gay man and a Morman female who was fundamentally opposed to homosexuality poster and their plans to marry ? I vaguely rememberSatan (and others) stating that this relationship was unfortunately doomed, there was a hell of a lot of baggage, I just thought to myself,

This really was a train wreck.
The BjOrn vs Rousseau wars were entertaining, if a little difficult to follow at times. I think Coldy put in a few appearances too.
And, IMHO, The Infamous Goat Cannon Thread deserves a place of high honor. It had me convulsed with laughter at the time.

Any other questions? I’ve been around since Day 1, have been involved with the SD from the jump, was one of the first message board mods (along with Euty and Lynn, in fact) . . . some of our mods here now were chat hosts on AOL . . .and so was Ranger and Jillgat, way back when.

And since a few have asked here, scratchie is alive and kicking and doing quite well; I spoke with him for the first time in well over a year a couple weeks ago. He is, indeed, his same old self, with added tattoos. He doesn’t have a computer, hence his absence; he sent along his regards.
