I updated Angry Birds for my Droid X. For the Droid, the game is free…with ads. (For iphone it’s a buck.)
In the latest version, the ads now stay on the screen during game play. Usually it goes away after the third bird toss, but until then, a big ad right over the area you need to see. And even though it goes away after the third bird, it comes right back when you redo the level or go to the next one.
I would gladly pay a dollar to get rid of the ads, but that version doesn’t exist. If I were to bet, I’d say they make more money from ad revenue than if they charged the dollar.
To be honest I don’t find it that irritating. While technically the ad covers the playing area most of the target lies below the ad. In my experience the frequency isn’t that bad and usually the ad goes away after the first toss. I don’t get ads in all the repeats either. But yes they should release a paid ad-free version. Or at least shift the ads to the top-left part of the screen where they would interfere less with the game while still being fairly visible.
That’s because the ads aren’t on your phone. It has to connect to a sever. You could just disable wifi and data and you’d get the same effect, and that way you wouldn’t miss a call or txt.
I have just started playing this also on a Droid X. If you wait a few seconds, it fades. It is on a timer; it doesn’t care how many birds you launched. For boards where the placement is annoying, I just wait.
Same with the first version I had, but not with the new one. The new one has the ad in the upper right instead of lower right. It takes a LONG time to fade.
