This topic was revisited last year but I still believe there are ways that have not been mentioned. If they have, then I apologize. Cecil states there are 5 ways to get on base w/o getting a hit. However, I did not see any reference to two obvious ways. The error (this should not be combined with third strike/pass ball) and Fielders Choice.
The other were; Base on Balls, Hit by Pitch, third strike/pass ball, catchers interference and Pinch Runner.
Did I miss something here or does that make it 7 ways to get on base w/o getting a hit?
I believe that the question was not how a runner can get on base without being credited with a hit, but how he could get on base without having actually hit the ball…i.e., no ball-bat contact.
