O.k. I’m an old MiSFiTs fan, not a new one. As such, I miss Danzig. Now don’t get me wrong I like the new 'fits, but it’s just not right. The whole wrestling thing and the second CD the new 'fits released is just not good. As such I ask any dopers here who have ever liked the 'fits to add this to their sig…
American Psycho was my first Misfits disk and it is one of my absolute most favorits disks. Famous Monsters was weaker - Walk Among us is super killer - I have one more but I don’t remember the title but I like it too. I plan on adding more Misfits to my collection - definitely one of the greatest bands in my opinion.
Oh - what does everyone think about the Danzig solo stuff - I have 2 or 3 of them - pretty good music but the production is typical Rick Rubin (if I remember correctly).
My sig on usenet used to be from 20 Eyes. It was my most popular sig, by far. It got tons of comments.
The Misfits were the best punk band, bar none. Maybe even the best band of any genre. I mean, I’d say that 90% of their songs are very good. Most bands of any genre seem to average about 30%. Samhain had some incredible classics, but it wasn’t as good.
Sorry, though, I’m not going to put in on my sig. I don’t like having a sig anymore. But it’s nice to have a Misfits thread…
Thanks for going and spoiling everything by revealing the secret behind my obsession with the number 138.
Opengrave, I oughtta beat you for even admitting all that. New misfits aren’t even the misfits. I guess I sorta kinda maybe like american psycho, mostly because listening to it (which I haven’t actually done in over a year) brings back some bittersweet memories (yes, I get all teary listening to the misfits, hehe) but they shouldn’t have even used the name ‘The Misfits’. It’s just wrong.
(At one point in my life my four best friends were scary misfits fanatics. I can get weird about this. :))
Yeah - this is a major bone of contention for true Misfits fans. ‘New’ Misfits is not REAL Misfits etc… If I had been a fan from way back I would most probably agree with you.
Maybe we should start a bands that changed thread:
Was Maiden any less Maiden with Blaze instead of Bruce?
Metallica - enough said
Van Halen - after Dave, after Sammy, etc…
KISS after Ace and Peter left (the first time)
Sepultura - after Max
AC/DC - after Bon
Pink Floyd - After Roger
Captain Bungholio and his Twirling Fartknockers - after Beavis and Butthead (uhhhh, nevermind)
Sabbath - After Ozzy, After Dio
CC - After Barnes
Nothing worse than a band trying to hard. New misfits just just don’t do anything for me. Luckily here in SF we have Plan 9, the misfits cover band that only covers old good classic misfits. sigh hooray!
I’ve never been that big of a Misfits fan, or of Danzigs solo work. While I own some casettes of both, neither will make it through the update to CD. I did see the Misfits last year, and they were OK, but I left before they even finished their set. I guess they had a hard act to follow after GWAR and Murphy’s Law.
Danzig’s “Misfits” are one of my favourite bands, but at the end of Samhain his stuff got a little too weird for me. Latter day wrestler band “The Misfits” (as I’ve heard they must call themselves) have played in my obscure corner of the globe a couple of times and I must say I quite enjoyed their shows. I think they know they’re trying too hard… I mean look at the spikey drums and that Lost In Space robot they have. As long as you go to the show expecting a novelty act you won’t be let down.
I try to think of them as the first punk band to join the legion of entertainers who are trying to cash in on an old image they’ll never be able to come close to. I suppose the Sex Pistols have been doing that for a while, but they ARE trying too hard. If you really can’t stand them I wouldn’t worry. Jerry’s Devil-Lock doesn’t look like it can take much more receding.
BTW, who the hell is Tiger in 138? Some B-Movie reference I’m assuming.
Definitely an old school Misfits fan here. One of my most prized possessions is an original press of “Beware” that a friend gave me for my birthday about 10 years ago.

This same friend opened for the “new” Misfits recently. He said that Jerry Only was very cool, but that everyone else was a prick, Michael Graves (lead singer) especially. I suppose they have the right, but still…
Also, since it doesn’t seem to have been addressed yet, there are rumors and rumors of rumors that the 'fits have fired Mike G. and that Danzig (tired of basking in his continuing heavy metal success snort) is back in for a Misfits reunion. Bittersweet news indeed. I can’t help but be enchanted by the idea, but I fear the reality will be grim, not to mention sad and pathetic. We shall see. No, I do not have a link. Sorry. This is hearsay.
Now, excuse me whilst I go comb what’s left of my hair into some semblance of a devilock.
THX1138 is the movie that “we are 138” came from (as far as my addled-mind will let me remember) it was an old George Lucas flick. I don’t remember the ‘tiger’ reference you speak of, can you refresh my memory?
