Not sure if I’m being whooshed or not, but I’ll go ahead and clarify that that’s my point.
test for self- editing
WOO! IT’S REAL, IT’S REALLY REAL.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Five minutes to [edit in the blank].
I just want to join in the fun.
Interesting. Very interesting.
Me too!
The point is that, if you can edit the quotes, and edit the posts themselves, who is to say which actually happened, especially since the post edited tag doesn’t always get appended. Without an edit feature, if someone “misquoted” someone else, it was patently obvious. Now, it won’t be.
Personally, I’ll wait and see what happens before forming judgment. I’ve been on plenty of other MB’s where it wasn’t a problem, that is, editing your posts was possible and it didn’t produce wars over edited words.
If NoClue calls me a dukey butt, I’ll be sure and wait five minutes before I call him on it.
Can I edit the reason for editing?
Let’s see:
Yup, but I only get One ‘Last edited’ line.
I wonder if I can sit here all morning and change my post every 4 minutes?
Does the ‘Edit’ clock run from the first post, or from the last edit?
It runs from the first post.
okay, I’m game…
but this is all new to me—if we can now edit our posts, why isn’t there A HUGE BIG BANNER SOMEWHERE INFORMING US OF OUR NEW RIGHTS?
I only opened the ABTMB forum by mistake, otherwise, I’d never have known about it. and how do you do it, anyway… where’s the “edit” button?
1 minute later:
ooohh-um, NOW, I get it…you post and the “Edit” button shows up all by itself, just like magic…neato, cool…
4 minutes later:
but there’s no message saying “this was edited”.
Over on the Something Awful boards, a little note shows up saying "this message was f*ucked around with by the author "
Dang, Squink, there is a upper level position for you in the organization I work for.
I was given to understand that some of us…Didn’t they tell you?
If no one has looked at your post between the time you first wrote it and last edited it, that message doesn’t appear. And why should it? What would be the diff between your editing it offline, where no one else sees it either, then posting the final version?
Ah, but I obviously did, having quoted it some sixty seconds later.
Maybe it’s a Socket Puppet Thing.
I haven’t tested it, but read what others are saying, especially post #8 in this thread: http://208.100.26.199/sdmb/showthread.php?t=404741
Ok, let’s test it again.
Very well, it asked me for the reason and I left it blank.
I still think it’s a sock puppet thing.
You know, if some dude posts something in haste, something that he realizes in horror less than five minutes later he really didn’t mean to say- who cares whether or not it “disappears”? I say it’s better that it does. Stops endless childish squabbles over “well you said this” “Well, I didn’t mean that, I meant this, and that should be obvious in context” “Well, you* said* this” “look, that’s not what I meant and I have since clarified it three times now”, “Well, you said this”… and on ad naseum.
This is not a good idea.
Sure it is.
Make up your minds.
