We could use your prayers please

oh no, cadolphin… i’m so sorry to hear this.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Losing loved pets is always so hard, so I hope she makes it.

Lady Bast, hear my prayr…

cadolphin so sorry to hear this, but as long as she is alive there is hope. Prayer can do some remarkable things, I really believe that. I’ll hug my own babies and pray for yours tonight.

I’m so sorry to hear about your baby, cadolphin. I’ve always felt blame for not taking my kitty to the vet soon enough when she died, so I also understand that pain. But please, you are doing all you can and she knows that. And she knows you love her, too. I’ll be praying for you all.

Oh, dear. I’m sorry. We lost a kitten, Giuseppe, to FIP, back in August. A day later, he would have been six months old.

Now, we fear that we may lose another kitten, Powdered Donut, to the same thing. And beyond that, out last kitten, Kuroneko (who just seems to be entirely too huge and healthy to fall victim to this).

I only regret not taking Giuseppe to the vet to have him put to sleep. That last week of his life was taxing on us, and could only be worse for him. And watching his death was something nobody should have to go through. I hope not to make the same mistake with Donut, should she have the same problem. I want her to enjoy her life, so when it’s nothing but suffering, well, you know.

That said, do what you’re doing now, keeping her comfortable. I’m sending good thoughts your way; but, also, hope that when the time comes for her to go, it’s peaceful, in her sleep.

irkenDoom a wonderful tribute to Giuseppe and his sibs. I had a rat that looked very much like your’s when I was a kid.

I had a puppy that I had to put down because she had distemper a week after her shots when she was 6 months old. It’s very hard to do, but that was one of the questions Rico and I asked the doc. If Shae was in pain, I would have ended it last night but she’s not in pain. She’s weak and doesn’t feel good, but she’s not in pain.

Before Rico went out of town today, he ran a cord into the bedroom here so I’m coming to you now from the bed beside Shae on Ric’s laptop and can try to keep my sanity by distracting myself with the net. I don’t do death well and I’m praying that she’ll pull through this crisis and live a long time like so many other cats I’ve read about on the net, but if that’s not what is ment to be, then, I too, hope she goes quietly in her sleep.

The good news tonight is she got up about 1/2 hr ago and went to the sandbox by herself. Now she’s back here on the bed sleeping. She had wet the bed twice today, but that’s got to be a good sign…that those kidneys are working at least a little.

I’ve been giving her water with an eyedropper and she’s taken a little bit. Rico brought home a whopper for lunch and she asked for a bite. I gave her one…damn the special diet if she’s not eatting it. She was only able to eat one little bit of the burger. Ric always gets 2 and he was prepared to give her his 2nd one if she would eat it. I was ready to give her the rest of mine. We’ve tried cat treats but she wouldn’t. I’ve tried feeding her by hand, but she’s said no.

Kali died 1 1/2 yrs ago from liver failure. Shelby was lost in a car accident 3 yrs ago. Loosing 2 of my children within 1 1/2 yrs was to much…now a 3rd one in 3 yrs. I suppose I’m stronger then I feel right now.

Thank you everyone! You really are the greatest group of people. Ric and I have said that many times!

Kathy

I’m still sending prayers and positive healing thoughts to you all.

For life for your baby if it is meant to be, for peace for you if it is not.

My Love,

Cheri

Thank you very much Cheri.

Hugs,

Kathy

Best wishes to all of you. We lost one cat last year to cancer and just recently our “old lady” Felicia had to be put to sleep due to liver shutdown.

Years ago one of our cats had developed thyroid problems which eventually required surgery. Shortly after that she went blind. She wasn’t in any pain and we couldn’t bring ourselves to have her put to sleep, since my wife had raised her from a kitten; she survived several years more, eventually passing away in her sleep.

WOOOOO HOOOOOO

We made it through the night!

Shae is sleeping here on my leg right now. I only got abt 3 hrs of sleep…between 8am - 11am, but she was asleep on my leg or stomach and Duffy slept curled up next to me most of the night.

He’s going to have such a hard time whenever she goes. He’s so close to his sister. He’s been extremely protective.

This has got to be a good sign that she’s still alive!

I can get 1/2 - 1 teaspoon of water in her at a time but nothing to eat for 2 days now except that little bite of hamberger. I am worried about that.

Thank you everyone!!! Your prayers, positive energy, good wishes must be helping.

Hugs and kitty-kisses from Bookitten.

I’ve been spoon-feeding a sick ferret at the zoo all week, so I know a bit of what you’re going through. It’s different when it’s your own, though. Hang in there! Animals sometimes can get through the darndest things.

Oh, one more thing - Shae is a beautiful name!

Thank you zoogirl. I’ve always loved her name. Her middle name is Erin.

I can’t remember if we posted the new link to our new webpage in this thread or not. to see our new homepage Then click on the link to the cat children’s page.

SHE ATE FROM HER BOWL ALL BY HERSELF
not much…just a little bit, but she ate…

ooooohhhhh!!! good news!

has she been grooming?

no…no grooming yet. I’d better start learning how to do a summersalt for when she does.

I didn’t want to take her to the vet’s office for her sub Q fluid today if I didn’t have to. Rico will be later tonight…it’s always taken both of us to hold her down and do it, but I tried it by myself. She just hates to ride in the car and I didn’t want to stress her out if it wasn’t necessary.

She managed to pull the needle out once, but then she was way to weak to fight successfully again. She got her 100ml and then jumped off the bed and went and laid down in her litterbox and give me the “looks could kill” look. After she rested, she jumped up and laid down with her teddy bears.

I left her there to rest and went in the livingroom for a little bit. I heard a noise I couldn’t identify so I came in. She was laying on the floor peeing. (She had wet herself, the towel, my leg, the comforter, sheets during her treatment just a few min before so I was kinda suprized she put out that much, but that’s a good thing!). I got the papertowels and reassured her that it was ok…Mommy would clean her up.

But when she was finished, she got up and walked over to the other side of the room and ate a couple bites from her foodbowl. Then she started to walk away but went back for another bite…then she laid down on the floor for a few minutes. Then she went back to her teddybears.

We’ve been trying to get her to eat treats or feed her by hand, but I’d decided I was going to try tuna or tuna water once she woke up from her sub Q. She’s worn out now and asleep again, but when she wakes up, it’s TUNA TIME. I called the dr and he said to feed her whatever she wanted. I got the feeling he was still saying she’s not going to pull through this crisis, but he didn’t give her 24 hrs and it’s been 40.5 hrs.

She’s my little fighter! With the wonderful dopers and fablous fathomites praying, etc for her, unless it’s her time to go, she’ll pull through this crisis!

I got some pictures of her brother watching over her last night. I have never done thumbnails before and that’s what I was trying to figure out when I heard Shae. I ended up messing up the directory name, but you can see Duffy watching over her last night… Duffy watching over his sick sister

She LOVED tuna water.

The best sign yet… (drum roll)

GROOMING… YES, SHE WASHED HER FACE

I’m doing the happy happy dance

I think we dodged the bullet this time.

Aaaw, prayers from me and purrs from Big Mac (aka Biggie Fries), Pepper, Peaches and Cookie.

My kittties’ (and my) website, if anyone’s interested!

cadolphin, that’s superb news! C’mon, Shae, pull through! You can do it!

Sending my prayers and fondest wishes for you all.

Sad update:

We went to the dr. today. Shae appears to be better because we got her hydrated again.

Her kidneys aren’t producing the hormone needed to make red blood cells so she’s extremely anemic…just short of needing a transfussion.

The rest of her is shutting down too. We’ll continute the sub Q fluid treatments and have the okay dokay from the good doc to give her ANYTHING she wants so she’s already got another round of tuna water and she’ll be getting ice cream if she’ll eat it…even chocolate if she still wants it… all her life she’s begged for it. now he says to give it to her.

the other dr thursday didn’t give her 24 hrs. she’s made it 72.5 hrs. this dr says anytime between now and the next 2-3 days. i sure as hell hope he’s wrong.

our little fighter will do her best. we’re pretty sure by her actions, and the fact that he explained it to us in great detail right in front of Princess Snow White that she knows the time is short. She’s become VERY demonstrative since we got back from the vet today. She’s not usually like that but she’s been giving us LOTS of purrrr-meows and a couple wobbely rubs against my legs. And I went to leave the bedroom and she stopped me. Very clearly said “I want you to stay here Mommy”

We have new pictures. Ric is working on them right now. Some of them truely priceless, course I admit that I might be ever so slightly biased. Please check our webpage in a little while and follow the links.

Not all of them are just Shae. Duffy has a very unique way of drinking. I’ll leave ya hanging so ya’ll go look… link The Wayman Homepage

Thank you everyone… Please keep those prayers and good thoughts coming for a peaceful passing into Heaven for our baby.

With love and appreciation to our Straight Dope family and friends,

Ric, Kathy, Shae, Duffy and Pearl
