How can you reserve the right to refuse service to anybody?
I mean if I were a racist(which i’m not) I could legaly refuse to sell to ethcnic groups I did not like. and I
believe that is illegal.
I think it’s one of those things where you can’t legally discriminate against someone in a business sense for reasons X,Y,Z… the official reason has to stay within certain parameters. Realistically you can always come up with a phoney but viable excuse. This is off-topic a bit, but years ago when my mom was a waitress she was fired from one job because she wouldn’t go along with that business’s standard practice of throwing uneaten or unfinished buns back into the basket for trimming and re-use, and pouring left over gravey back into the big pot to be doled out again. Since this was an illegal practice back then in that particular city, they coulnd’t fire her for that… but they could and did fire her for “being uncooperative with management”. That practice sucks sometimes, but is helpful at other times; a way of getting around being dictated who to serve or hire or how to run your own business. If I ran a bar that was frequented for example by mostly black people, I’d certainly want a way to be able to refuse service or entry to the KKK if they came marching up for drinks after one of their meetings. You tend to loose customers and may devellop a bad reputation for refusing service to a certain cliental, but it can definately be done and there are some good reasons for it, like the one this thread is all about.
There are just too many smart-ass comments here.
