Sunday night I went out to our screened porch to get a book I’d left out there. I didn’t turn on the light because I was in my robe. I heard a tiny voice say “meep”. It was coming from the driveway. When I got to the driveway, I felt something fuzzy brush up against my ankle. I barely had time to see it before it scampered under the car. I think it was scared by my fuzzy slippers with the big smiley faces on them. After much coaxing, it got close enough for me to see how tiny it was. I was expecting a kitten old enough to have wandered off on it’s own. I doubted this one was even weaned.
We have an elderly dog with health problems and a male cat who plans on being the baby of the family forever so I didn’t even consider keeping it. We were going to have to wait until Tuesday to take it to the shelter, but by that time, we were all in love… except for our other cat who is acting the same way he does when a storm is coming.
She’s a little girl we named Peachy. According to the vet, she’s 4 weeks old and except for being a little underweight, she’s healthy. Murfie loves his new little sister. He watches her constantly, and won’t let her get more than a few feet away from him. When she gets trapped in a corner, he gently scoops her out with his paw, then licks her while she nuzzles his big floppy ear.
What is it with tiny orange kitters getting lost lately? Last year I found a kitten of similar age, very tiny, and very orange (now lives at my boyfriend’s). The local independent pet supply house has hosted for adoption several little orange foundlings.
I whole-heartedly approve of your choice of names, and your choice to keep the little darling. I previously had an orange tabby “Peaches” (male) and currently have an orange tabby “Mango” (female).
She’s also a genetic rarity, as only about 1 in 4 orange tabbies are female. Lucky you!
i found a ginger girl last month. she is a bit bigger (thankfully) about 6-7 months old. she is a love bug and as does your peachy, go well with the green, brown, blue decor.
It was kind of a mystery how she got in our yard. She can’t really walk more than a few feet without falling over. We thought maybe the mom relocated her, then wasn’t able to get back. But, yesterday I saw a yellow tom cat lurking around the driveway and looking under the car. That may explain the little bruised area on her throat.
