Get out a clean peanut butter jar and go in my back yard, dozens of fireflies! I’ve never seen so many! (Central NY, a very hot and very rainy month).
We have them in Indianapolis too! My grandson’s going out to try to catch some.
I’ve only seen three all summer, and one of them was tonight. It’s been a very cool, often wet spring and early summer here in NE Ohio. Not good firefly weather, I guess.
We’ve had bunches here in NC, they’ve even been staying out when it’s raining.
Western Pa there were so many last night it was freaky.
None in north central Iowa yet. They’re late.
We had a cool, wet spring. It doesn’t feel like summer has started yet – we’ve only run the A/C one day. It’s almost July.
I’ve never seen a firefly irl. Jealous fits happen now.
Count me as jealous, too. We left Michigan for the Pacific Northwest when I was but a tiny tot. Never seen a firefly, or a cardinal, for that matter. I want to see both someday.
let them go and reproduce. i’ve heard they are declining.
One summer night last year, I thought it odd that one of our neighbors had a full set, maybe even a double or triple set, of Xmas lights on in one of his trees. Looked just odd enough for me to get out and look closer. FIREFLIES!
By the time I came back with my camera, most of them had gone
.
We’ve had them for a few weeks here in west central Indiana. We seem to see more of them when the weather is hot and humid.
I noticed them here in southern New Hampshire in the past week.
I’m in NE Indiana and we hardly had any lightning bugs (get the name right, people! :D) last summer. It was one of the hottest and driest summers on record. This year I’m happy to report they’re back in full force.
Ooooh… Shiny!
My first fireflies were May 25th this year. It’s always a big thing for me.
