Check around, and read about what the nazis did to the left, read also the answers that were in the mentioned thread, your position is maintained only by pea brains. But as I said before: If you are in this board, you have given the first step to lose that, deep down even you do know that right wing sources of information are the ones jerking you around: why are you here if not for the reason to see other points of view and to check your own?
If you don’t reexamine your positions, the jerkiness of a extreme position then turns not only to affect you, but it also makes you become one.

I, and many another here who calls him/herself a liberal, are not for government ownership or industry (at last in general, reserving the right for each of us to make exceptions for certain “natural monopolies”). Government control, IMHO, should be limited to that necessary to ensure that the consumer is not defrauded, the employee gets a fair deal, and the operations of the industry do not harm the community in which it is located or nearby communities, and should be outcome-based rather than specific mandates. I am aware that there are socialists and a few communists left on the left, but they are not, in general, characteristic of the left as an overall body.
In one thread or the other, someone did a compare/contrast of Nazi and American liberal stances on several issues; have you seen it? Do you have any comments?
And I’m curious about the “other stuff that ought to be control[l]ed privately.” Do you have any examples? I realize it’s common knowledge that liberals are out to restrict what people can do in their bedrooms in private, to mandate specific religious observances on all schoolchildren, and to put up plaques using your tax dollars to celebrate their personal views – but surely you have other points you had in mind.
