What the title says. It got to about 70 degrees F (21 or so C) here today – very odd for the Upper South in winter. Beautiful day – sunny and warm. It was marginally cool on the deck (it faces east, so it was in shade this late in the day), but a light sweatshirt made me quite comfortable. And we were joined for the latter part of the meal by a young ladybug, for reasons known only to it. And this is six days after a day-after-Christmas snowfall!
What weather oddities are you encountering these days?
Yup. We went to a party last night and rang in the new year on the back deck. Eating hash brown casserole, sipping champagne, and tossing frisbee in the yard. Very nice.
Right now, all my windows are open, and it’s hovering just above 70 degrees.
It was mild here in southern Maryland - probably into the low 60s. I took my dog for a walk, and I was just in a t-shirt and jeans, and quite comfy. It’s suppose to stay warmer than usual till at least a week from Monday, so that’s nice. Of course, these long range forecasts change, so who knows what may happen in 2 or 3 days?
Still, the furnace hadn’t kicked on all day, which is good for my pocketbook!
70 degrees here yesterday. It’s very disconcerting to see people biking in shorts and tanktops at the end of December.
The last time it was this warm around Christmas, the nice weather was followed a week later by a godawful three-day ice storm that left us without telehones or power for two weeks…
Had a pleasant New Year’s Eve, and my hosts opened windows and the back door to their patio when we all commented about how warm the house was.Temperature at 9:00 P. M. was around 55 degrees Fahrenheit. First time that’s ever happened. Went to the Mummer’s Parade today. Beautiful, sunny mild day, actually needed sunglasses, 63 degrees Fahrenheit[set a record, I believe] Always remembered freezing at the parade, and having to go home early because it was impossible to enjoy any longer. There are cherry trees here soon to burst into bloom, as they have the last 4 or 5 Januaries. No global warming? I got yer’ no global warming right here.
We had most of our New Years party outside with temps in the 50s, though it began to rain off & onn around 10:30. Even the rain was only cool, not cold.
Tonight we ate dinner outside on the back deck. Needed a longsleeve shirt, but not even a windbreaker.
Per the NWS, average weather here for this week would be highs of 38 and lows of 22.
You ain’t just whistlin’ Dixie, buddy. I’m just north of you, and we got over 70 here, too. Well over 70. With the sun hitting the house, it got hot enough in here that I had to run the AC for a little bit! Nice.
“If this is global warming, I’ll take two please.” What folks don;t see is the big picture. Sure. it’s pleasant not to be cold on New Year’s Day, but the warming isn;t stopping here. We’re headed for a runaway greenhouse effect on this planet caused by anthropogenic emissions that will turn our planet into an uninhabitable furnace within a short time. The scientific consensus isn’t there yet, but the collapse of the Larsen B ice shelf and increasingly unstable weather patterns have convinced me we’re in real trouble. We won’t see it, but our not too remote descendants will.
