We need a DNC 2012 Thread

Hell, Nixon’s domestic policies were so interventionist and so far to the left of Obama’s that today’s GOP would excommunicate him.

Your posts are so far off-topic that I have trouble believing you are really trying to argue instead of annoying people. Keep your comments related to the 2012 DNC.

But he also did things that would make Democrats puke.

Naval expansion, war in the Philippines and conservation.

Please see my note in the post before this one.

I’m referring to the ongoing sanctions and bombing campaign:

Here’s Professor Joy Gordon’s book on the subject.

Here is the GoogleBooks link.

Here she is on Democracy Now and Antiwar Radio.

It’s a crime of enormous proportions, and Noam Chomsky once supposed in the 1990s that the objective, among other things, would be to weaken Iraq’s population in order to make it easier to invade some day.

Interesting. I’m assuming the sanctions against Cuba and North Korea, et al, would also count as war crimes?

Professor Gordon’s work is certainly distressing, although estimates of deaths seem more like half a million.

However, the sanctions were instituted by Bush Sr in 1990 (using the UN) & continued into 2003–which was Bush Jr’s reign. But I guess OurLordPeace thinks that Republicans are allowed that sort of thing…

Clinton’s speech was OK, if you can ignore the spittle gleaming in the corner of his mouth. It was painful fighting off the urge to run up onstage and wipe the old man’s mouth for him.

The speech was too long. Twice as long as it needed to be. It was also predictably about himself too much and didn’t focus on helping Obama.

Other than that, though, it was great.

Michelle Obama’s speech was much better. I liked how she indirectly confronted her obvious dislike of the office she and her husband hold. She did a good job of addressing that and deflecting it.

You’re thinking of Clint, not Clinton.

Perfect.

One of Bill’s best speeches ever. I love how he took on the opposition to Health Care and the Economy with the finesse of a great orator and the substance of a real policy wonk, and nobody got bored!

Damn, by the time the speech was over, my underwear was on the floor and there was a cigarette in my mouth…

this makes no sense…unless you are stating the opposite of the truth on purpose for some reason?

The stock market closed at it’s highest level in over four years today. A nice bit of good news leading into Obama’s speech tonight. Hopefully the unemployment numbers will also be on his side tomorrow morning. If so, I can see him getting a huge bounce in the polls after this week, 6-7 points.

Well, I’m Canadian and have no vote and no skin in the game - and I think Michelle Obama’s speech, while warmly and skillfully delivered, was predictable, trite, and uninspiring.

But I’m telling you right now Bill Clinton’s speech was one hell of a speech. It was the best convention speech I’ve ever seen. It was too long, and yet he still nailed it. It was so superior to the RNC speeches it’s unfair.

Did anyone see the RNC convention thread? Certainly there must be one lying around here somewhere.

Maybe Bush has it.

Heh. Remember when the stock market was tanking in 2008 and the Republicans were claiming that it was the mere thought of Obama becoming President that was causing it? Good times. Why don’t they say that anymore?

Gabby Giffords, you are amazing!

I remember when Democrats used to argue that using the stock market as a gauge of economic strength was in error.

Well, it is. Still funny.

I remember when Republicans were consistent in their principles rather than saying whatever they can think of to paint Democrats bad and Republicans good.
