There, and I always thought the future just sort of happened.
That they did. And today, they’d be asking for our votes so they could get to work repealing them.
Why do you go to so much effort to ensure people don’t take you seriously?

Why would I and why would they?
Sigh, do we really need to keep pointing out that since the 60’s the Republican party is NOT the party of Lincoln?
Because you all realize that your biggest attacks against Obama (Medicare and welfare) were all taken apart, ground into dust, and scattered into the wind by Clinton. Or because you saw the enthusiasm of the crowd which likes their candidate and likes their former president. It’s like you’re in a rowboat and you’re firing pop guns at an aircraft carrier. Your boat is bound to sink.
Well, I wasn’t planning on ditching work for it, if that means anything.
Transcript of Clinton’s speech highlighting when he went off his prepared remarks. Reading it this way, I can’t help but hear his voice in my head as I’m reading it. It really shows that this speech wasn’t just phoned in, but that he really believed in and is passionate about its message.
Hey moonshot, you do realize that the Republican Party of Lincoln’s day represented what you would now describe as “left wing,” “liberal” or “progressive,” right? That’s like me saying the Detroit Tigers are currently the best team in baseball because they won the World Series in 1984.
And this is a discussion thread for the Democratic National Convention. It’s not a catch-all “Democrats suck, Republicans rock” kind of thread. If you just want to shit on Democrats, I’m sure you could find other more appropriate threads available for that.
The Republican party is really the same. Still defending individual rights of life, liberty and property.
Provided you can pay for them.
You gotta give them something to cling to, man. A third-grade-textbook understanding of history just makes the world seem so much… simpler, you know?
As long as your life doesn’t require expensive medical care, you can afford the time and money to secure an ID card to practice your liberty to vote, and your property isn’t in the path of a category 5 hurricane.
Unless the individual happens to be a Muslim, abortion fanatic, illegal immigrant, or any other member of the DNC freak show?
Would the real moonshot925 please stand up?
I was amazed at how much better Bill Clinton has become as a speaker. He was good back in the day, but I’d always felt a bit of a carnie shell game vibe to his tone back then. I expect that now that he doesn’t have to pander and mince words to appeal to congressional support, he is free to tell it straight.
Well at least he hasn’t puled out the “Real Americans” card yet.
The individual’s right to reproductive choice, same-sex marriage…
Seriously, could you make a new thread or try to restrain yourself to the topic of this one, and could the rest of us try not to take the bait quite so hard?
Your argument completely fails when you look at what the Republican Party has done.
Like I said, 13th and 15th amendments passed by Repub Congress.
First black men in congress were Hiram Revels and Blanche Bruce, both were Republicans.
Yes, And Teddy Roosevelt was probably the most PROGRESSIVE President ever…who did things that would make modern Republicans puke.
What does this have to do with the Democratic National Convention?
For someone so concerned with the future, you’re stuck pretty far back in the past.
(I know, I shouldn’t jump on the bait. It’s fun, though.)
