We need a DNC 2012 Thread

Wait. They didn’t talk about policy? How is the ACA not policy? How is choice not policy? How is supporting gay marriage not policy? Pell grants and student loans. Support for troops and wounded warriors. It was laden with policy issues.

Wow! I enjoyed the whole thing!

Simply Amazing night. I can’t wait to see The President Thursday night.

Not sure what you’re reading, but here is what I actually said.

I don’t think I need to actually pull up polls which show that the economy ranks as the number one issue to voters and that people would care more about their economic livelihood rather than not getting free BC or whether or not two dudes/chicks can marry each other. That’s kind of a no-duh thing. Again, woe to the R’s for talking about things people care about!

(Some of the responses in this thread just solidify the notion that Democrats, in general, are simply really out of touch with reality.)

Anyone who doesn’t vote for Obama forfeits the right to be called an American. Game over.

And OMGABC, it’s because we care about the economy that we’re going to reelect the President.

I don’t think “LET’S WRECK IT FOR THE RICH” really counts as talking about the economy.

The issue for this election was and is and will be the economy. All of those things you mention are part of his policy and are accomplishments to be proud of, but they need to stop talking about what has already been done, and start talking about how their economic plan will succeed and the Republican plan will fail. Otherwise it’s going to be a rough row to hoe between now and November. While it’s true that the right said they’ll create 12 million jobs, they gave zero specifics as to how they’re going to do that. But they’ve said that they have a plan that will be revealed ( ) after the election. If there is no plan coming from the left in the next two days, the right will point and laugh and claim that there is none. I’m sure the DNC is aware of all this and will address it.

Oh, I wouldn’t say that. It clearly took some effort to make up things I never said to argue against.

Anyway, I’m not going to spend a lot of time worrying about the opinion of a walking, talking Paid Political Advertisement for the Republicans. There are plenty of people here who’s opinions have actual value, and I’ll leave to them tell me me I’m out of line, if such be the case.

Let me tell you something, Omg. People do, in fact, care about health care for everyone. I sure do; I know someone who died because she couldn’t afford the health care that would have saved her life, and she’s not alone. Forty-five thousand people die every year because they don’t have health insurance and can’t afford medical treatment on their own. So yes, the Affordable Care Act is important to me, and I care about it.

Caring about the economy? No war on women? Those are two huge loads of the rankest effluvia.

For a party that claims it’s so concerned about the economy and believes that government should be small and hands off, what I’ve seen in state after state, and in the federal government, is that as soon as the Republicans gained control they started trying to pass bills restricting abortion rights, intruding into one of the most painful and personal decisions a woman could make, and removing access to affordable health care for women. Too often, they’ve succeeded. I’ve seen precious little in the way of trying to help create jobs and a whole lot of making life more and more desperate for women in need of any kind of health care, and doubly so when it’s reproductive health care.

I was rewriting that but ran afoul of the five-minute limit. I should have said:

There are plenty of people here whose opinions I value much more, and I’ll leave to them to tell me me I’m out of line, if such be the case.

Apologies for implying that OMG’s opinions are valueless.

This would make sense if the GOP did anything to help the economy, ever. Instead of fucking it up like retards.

The Democrat Party has turned into a freak show.

Muslims, abortion fanatics, gays, lesbians, transsexuals, transvestites, occupiers, government unions, illegal aliens, communists, and more!

I didn’t know I needed your permission to respond to your posts.

…Of course, in case you just happened to make a bit of syntax error and meant that “it clearly took some effort to argue against things [you] never said”, then I’ll kindly point out that:

1.) You were the one who trotted out “reproductive rights” as somehow taking precedence over, or being on the same level as, the unemployment rate or economy in general and

2.) That you most certainly did mention “the saving of the domestic auto industry” as an accomplishment worth touting.

So since when does responding to things you typed out constitute a straw man?

That’s quite an interesting accusation there. I’d be willing to bet that the Democrat leaning posters are more “walking, talking Paid Political Advertisements” for their respective party moreso than I am.

Chances are if a conservative leaning poster were to try to do so, you’d unceremoniously write them off.

You mean Americans, cause that’s what I saw, a nice big all inclusive tent, not a white man’s country club

Wow.

El_Kabong can correct be, but if I had to guess, I’d say it was taking this statement…

When all he mentioned about women was equal pay and reproductive rights, you turned it into…

Like I said, I could be wrong, but that’s how I read it. He may or may not believe the GOP is waging a war on women (I really don’t follow political threads), but he certainly didn’t say it here. You were the first one in the thread to bring up that quote. Also, you put it in quotes and said “the fact” as if to imply that he actually said it and used that phrase.

BTW, what the hell does “The fact that you seemingly believe” mean anyways? Isn’t that just a roundabout way of saying “I think you think that the GOP is waging a war on women”

OMG, take a look at post 52 if you’re wondering why people seem to care about social issues when the economy is so sluggish. An empty wallet may be important, but someone attacking your basic humanity tends to get to you.

ETA: Come to think of it, that’s why social conservatives care too. Only they seem to think that the very existence of gays and Muslims and such are threatening their way of life.

(I haven’t looked up that particular poster’s history, so I don’t know for 100% sure if [s]he is being sincere or parodic, but even if it’s the latter, there’s real attitudes on the conservative/Republican side that are being parodied.)

The economy is doing piety damn good considering the free fall it was in when Obama took over. Check out your 401k if you aren’t sure. The economy was losing 500,000 jobs a month when Obama took over, note it C treating jobs at a steady pace. Housing had turned around. Check the indicators, the economy is actually doing ok, not gangbusters, but consider where we were and the idea the economy is bad just isn’t true.

No.

The unemployment rate has been over 8% since Feb 2009 (42 months), poverty rate is 15.1%, Median family incomes have declined, over 1 million home foreclosures annually, 47 million people on food stamps, anemic GDP growth, etc..

Not “piety damn good”

Its the abortion fanatics, always grabbing me by the lapels and screaming that I must have an abortion, right away. Doesn’t do any good to point out that I’m a guy, they tell me that’s just an excuse…
