We need more smilies.
I completely agree.

On the other hand, I’d really like to be able to embed MIDI files in my posts.

See, this was a perfect time to use the  before we break out Pitchforks and Torches and march on your Castle of Evil.

Not only are animated smilies the work of Evil Incarnate, I believe that everyone who has so far posted in favor of animated smilies should be hunted down and given a severe talking to. Possibly even be thrown into a jello pit. With an appropriately nasty flavor they don’t like. Maybe “cod-n-cucumber” flavor.

That having been said, I wouldn’t be against adding a few more tasteful smilies. Like a “barfy”. I think we need a “barfy”.

I’m on the side of no further smilies, and absolutely no animated smilies. However, some adjustment would be welcome. These   :frowning: are too dark for me too see the features. If I didn’t already know the red one is mad and the blue one is sad, I couldn’t tell from looking.

This was true for me before my current visual difficulties.

Can we please add the swiss/neutral smiley?
http://home.earthlink.net/~awinkelried/images/smileypoll1/ch.gif
Can also be used to express the ideas ‘I don’t want to get involved in this dispute’ or ‘I am neutral on the subject.’

I agree that :o just doesn’t work. It should be replaced with a deadpan smilie:

:expressionless:
…I doubt {MIDI} would even be technically feasible.
Embed them in threads and not posts.

Ponder Simmons, does this fairly reflect your views on supporters of those smilies?

Well, yes, but you’d still get multiple clips per thread. Unless only the OP could do it, or something?

Well and all this time I thought that was First Aid Smiley.

Well, Cluricaun, that is a common misconception! The First Aid symbol is typically a white cross on a green background ( First aid - Wikipedia ) and the Red Cross symbol is a red cross on a white background ( First aid - Wikipedia ).

But you are not the only one confused by the Swiss flag. I remember taking a small river boat trip down the Mississippi when I visited New Orleans. There were several barges at anchor in the area. One of them was one of those bargest that probably comes down the Rhine River to the North Sea. A crew member was telling us tourists the country of origin of the boats (Here’s one with the French flag etc.) and when he saw the one with the Swiss flag he said “and here we see one with the Swiss Army Knife symbol!” Oooh I was so mad.
I’m sure you’re joking, but I doubt that would even be technically feasible. What happens when two people embed MIDIs in the same thread?
Simple: first one to post a MIDI in a thread wins.

How can we lose!?

I wouldn’t mind having a few more smilies. There seems to be frequent passing requests for a barfing smilie.

The only smilie that should be animated is roll-eyes. It was animated back in the UBB days and nobody complained.

I agree- no animated smileys, please.

But I am not sure what this :o is supposed to be.

And we need a Yuck emoticon, or as Ponder Stibbons said- a “barfy”.

We have room for two more in the current 15 spot list. So, I say we get two more. But that’s it.

That’s what I meant. Choose a MIDI when you start a thread: Phantom of the Opera for the Pit, Miss Anderson for Cafe Society…

This is the song for Cafe Society.

I wouldn’t mind a few extra smilies, and agree as to no animated ones. But the midis — ugh! Please, for the love of Og, no!
I would like to see more similes, personally.

Well, I would like to see the reintroduction of flogging. Every Thursday, round at my place.

Or, “I have a knife in my pocket, so don’t cross me!”

Back in the Winter of Our Missed Content (2003?), when we were on the temporary board, we could use animated smilies. The consensus was quite negative.
You are in a minority that wants animated Smilies*.
Most of us do not want Animated Smilies or Icons or pictures or Avatars.

Some of us would not mind some new Smilies or some updated one. The Blow Job smiley in particular needs to be replaced with a better embarrassment smiley. :o

Some like Lord Ashtar would prefer no more Smilies.

 • This is by the way used by the software itself. Look at the Smilies box.

Great idea! While we’re at it, we should introduce [blink] and [marquee] tags and make Comic Sans the default font.
