Perhaps “inherent” isn’t the right word. But I wanted to avoid “implicit” because of its implication that “I’m a racist, but I’ll just pretend not to be by avoiding blatantly racist terms.” I wanted a word for people and institutions that are racist even if they believe they are not racist.
Wow, thanks for that internet diagnosis. I was not “challenging” by asking for a cite, I simply wanted to know that we were indeed discussing facts, as I truly had never heard of such insidious racism before. If I would have known that the information was linked in the OP, I wouldnt have asked for a cite. But no direct link was made. Hence my request, “Unconscious racist biases” have nothing to do with it.
the truth hurts. Your attempt to insult me personally is proof that, today, the TRUTH about your bubble hurt YOU. LOL
It’s not exactly that I’m calling you out personally. I’m pointing out a semi-systemic problem.
To your credit, you actually linked to a study in your post.*
The OP linked to Slate, a left-leaning magazine. Not the same thing.
Later, the OP confuses “news” with “op-ed”. Not sure why, but it doesn’t bode well for him.
And then we have an idiot who thinks that Facebook is the be-all and end-all of “factual” information. Ha! Besides, not everyone checks Facebook daily, or ever.
*This mb would be better served if everyone took your cue, and linked to actual cites, and not Slate, Kos, HuffPo, Fox, and/or Drudge.
And your attempt (your very ignorant attempt) to insult me personally, as well as the tortured logic and ridiculous conclusions probably doesn’t hurt you much, since you are an idiot. I might have been generous in calling you a bubble idiot, in retrospect, since perhaps your idiocy is systemic.
Black boys viewed as older, less innocent than whites
School discipline is harsher when you’re a black person, especially a dark-skinned black person
Try not to oppress any minorities between now and bedtime, Archie Bunker.
Obvious troll is obvious. Bye now, dumb shit.
The problem with calling it out directly when the other person doesn’t think there is any racism involved in it is that you pretty much guarantee that they will not listen to you. You’re better off bringing it up outside of a conversation.
That’s why the OP was told to take it to the Pit. He flat out called it a “dog whistle,” meaning he thought doorhinge was deliberately hiding racism in what he said.
I doubt he is. He may think of black people first when thinking of criminal elements, but he most likely deliberately chose to avoid referring to black people as criminals.
There are systemic problems, and they need to be discussed. But calling out the person who is biased by the system only works if the person already accepts the problem. It’s the same reason I say referring to “white privilege” is a bad idea. I instead always explain the concept when it’s applicable.
said Archie Bunker.
Yes. And there are real problems, as seen in monstro’s links, as well as those linked by Acsenray. Sadly, this seeming tactic lately of calling all who disagree with you racists and jumping automatically to that in every discussion doesn’t help anything…it just causes people to dig in their heels about race and become defensive. What DOES help is calm, reasoned argument backed up by the facts. We definitely have a race problem in this country. Things are better than when I was a kid, but ‘better’ isn’t equal to ‘good’ by any stretch.
It’s like the fight of ignorance…it’s taking longer than we thought. A hell of a lot longer.
is that what you’re doing? Because that’s especially classy when an older white man does it. LOL
Wow, I don’t have Facebook, a bubble or a feed. If that logic is true, I must be one fucked up racist. But then, I’m not scared of black people either. In fact, the few black friends I have, I sort of forgot they were black. But thanks for pointing that out for me. I’ll get Facebook and a bubble and a feed so no one thinks I’m a racist ever again.
Another old white dude speaks, having felt pain upon discovering he really is a stereotypical old white racist. LOL
Dude, do you not see the irony in your automatic assumption I’m a ‘white man’? The irony of calling me a racist, when you basically decided, incorrectly, that I was ‘white’? What did you base that on? The fact that I get my news from CNN and the BBC? That I speak English? That I post on a message board?
I know you are just a stupid troll, and your trolling is so obvious that it’s laughable, as was your original ridiculous assertion, but you basically make my point for me. You’ve also managed to kill this thread, such as it is, which I’m fairly sure the OP isn’t going to thank you for, though at a guess most are ignoring you because, well, you are stupid and a troll.
So if you’re not white, why do your posts stink of privileged ignorance on this subject?
Why do yours?
I just looked at your thread history. You work in IT and post about subjects near and dear to the white old nerd heart. I can’t believe you actually think anybody here thinks you’re not white.
And your accusation of racism reminds me of a certain bible verse about motes and beams, or some such. LOL
