“Have you accepted Donald Trump as your personal Lord and Savior?”
“We are so sorry, alas it is already too late!”
“Hope to arrive in time for lunch”
I had an idea for a story once, where Earth starts receiving television signals from space. We work out where the signal comes from, and it turns out they’re taking about 50 years to reach us. Based on their media (which becomes very popular on Earth) they seem to be pretty similar to us, and so we start broadcasting messages back to them, trying to open up lines of communication.
After a few decades of sending signals to them, none of which have had time to get there, we start getting news broadcasts from them, of different alien ships showing up in orbit and systematically annihilating their cities and slaughtering their citizens, and nothing they do can stop or even slow them down.
And these new murder aliens are about to get our signal, telling them exactly where we are.
That’s a clever story premise.
As the the OP:
Seconds after we send the message, simultaneously everyone on earth gets a real-life copy of their own (viciously severed) head teleported to them and it’s screaming back the message that we sent them, again and again and again. It would be difficult to interpret that in a good way.
