Correction: It’s 54 now, which would explain why it feels warmer than 46.
Gonna be 60F Tuesday. Still 20 something.
Memo to self: Plan torture for Dopers over freezing to keep warm. Something about molten AOL CDs.
Grande Prairie, Alberta. From the Enviroment Canada Website:
All temperatures are in degrees C
Considering it was -39 yesterday, not too bad.
Boy, Celsius tempratures ARE strange
It’s -8 at 1:00 in Minneapolis. If there were any snow on the ground it would be about 10 degrees colder as sunlight would reflect into space. Even that would be nowhere near a record low though (which is around -35). We’ve had five warm winters in a row here. People are losing their perspective I think.
I’m a former Buffalo Gal (eighteen years in The Queen City), so forgive me if I gloat a little bit:
It’s over 50 degrees here in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains, breezy as usual, and sunny blue skies with wispy high clouds. Tonight should get down into the 20’s and we will light a fire and fall asleep to the soothing, crackling sounds, as we usually do. What a climate! Just wish we’d get some rain, darnit.
Saskatchewan:
Temperatures near 0F combined with fresh snow (1-2) inches combined with 30 mph winds = winter storm warning with near blizzard conditions…

Boston, MA , 15 degres F or around -10 C.
I think the warmer it got in the past 2 or 3 weeks is about 25 F.
I have never been so cold in my life. (It is windy too)
Update on Durham: Now 17, with a wind chill bringing us down to around 7 f. 'Course that don’t hold a candle to you’ns up north.
Pass the popcorn and hot chocolate, go turn on the electric blanket!
Melbourne, Australia:
It’s dry and it’s hot. City is covered with smoke from the bushfires to the north, so the air is horrible. The sun is red.
Top: 37 degrees © (98.6 degrees F). Fire danger is expected to reach extreme in some districts. Total Fire Ban for all districts except 1.
Tomorrow is forecast to be 40 degrees C (104 F)

Question for you wintery Dopers: how does this windchill thing work?
Is windchill SUBTRACTED from the minimum temperature (well, added really, since it’s a negative number) to give you an idea of how cold it will be when the wind blows
Or,
Does the windchill temperature indicate IN ITSELF how cold it will be when the wind blows?
(I’ve never heard of windchill before. :))
Weather forecast for Sydney today:
Saturday
High to Very High fire danger. Fine and mostly sunny. Hot inland. Light to moderate north to northeast winds, freshening on the coast in the afternoon.
Current Temperature: 20 C
Forecast Max: 28C*
Wind Direction & Speed: NW at 5 knots
Humidity: 79%
Pressure: 1021.4 hPa
All temperatures in sensible measurements. Information courtesty of the Sydney Morning Herald.
*Wrong, as usual though. It’s going to be hotter than that. It’s 7am here, and the sun already has that mean look about it.
Whitehorse, Yukon, as of 1:00 pm PST
-31°F/-35°C
Ice fog, winds are calm (thank OG!)
Oh, and seven hours and fourteen minutes of daylight.
Windchills here are subtracted from the ambient temperature. The report goes along the lines of “The temperature outside is minus thirty-five, with a windchill factor of twenty. This makes it minus fifty-five. Windchill warning. Exposed skin will freeze in less than five minutes.”
cadolphin: Sounds just like every other day around here lately.
Clothing guide: put on a sweater only at night; don’t bother during the day.
You’re totally right vivalostwages. Don’t bother closing the window either.
Seriously, though, where is that El Neenyo rain we’re supposed to get? I dread the summer already.
Yay…wtf! Where is El Nino??? I don’t do summers and I’m really dreading this one!!!
If today was any indication, summer has already started!
