Web hosting renewal: unstated rate hike; must cancel day before charge posts.

Complicated header, sorry.

I have a site with Bluehost.com which, IIRC, was reasonable to host the first 3 years, but now is up to $500 for the second 3. (They’re charging by the month now.) So I want to get rid of it.

Here’s the thing. Bluehost auto-renews on your credit card 15 days before expiration. But! If you wish to cancel your account, you must notify them 16 days before!

The charge is pending on my card, which means I can try to get it taken off. If I do this, what are Bluehost’s options? Does it make sense, for example, for them to sue for a crummy $500?

(Note: Please don’t go all caveat emptor here The rate hike was unannounced. I want to know my options, not why it’s unfair to Bluehost for me to pursue them. Thanks.)

Hmm, is it necessarily hostile? Can you just ask their support?

Seems like even if you canceled after it was already renewed, you’d get a pro-rated refund for 99% of it.
