I am trying to view a web page page that I know has a new version up, but my computer only loads the old version. I erased any cookies I could find from my hardrive, but it still only loads the old version. can anybody help me?
Umm, OS, web viewer and such could be a BIG help here.
Caching on another machine upstream could be the culprit. E.g., your ISP, your corporation’s network controller, or if you are using Internet connection sharing software like Wingate that does caching.
Erasing your cookies probably isn’t as helpful as erasing your cache.
Don’t want to insult your intelligence but have you hit the “reload” button?
yeah. i tried that
Rico taught me a “trick” when we were moving my old webpage over to our own domain and updating the pages.
Hold down Ctrl while you press F5. Continue to hold down Ctrl while the page updates.
If that doesn’t work, I have no other clues. I would have done the cookies, cache, and temp folders like have already been suggested prior to a few weeks ago when Rico taught me this way.
Good luck!
for netscape, hold SHIFT when you click reload, this reloads a new page.
It may not be your computer at all. Some ISPs cache often-accessed pages to save on their bandwidth.
A trick that reportedly works to get around ISP caching is to stick a ? at the end of the URL you wish to access. It probably won’t affect the website, but the ISP cache may see it as a different, noncached, page.
Just in case, AOL’s “reload” button behaves differently from right-cliking on the page, and selecting the “refresh” option.
Joey G’s trick worked. thanks!
Booyah!
Glad I could help.
