Webcam software

Here’s the scoop:

I like to appear on my webcam for my parents and some friends back home, but the only way I’ve found to do it where it wasn’t a big pain for the person watching was through Yahoo messenger. I’m sure there’s a way or a software solution where you can give the other person a web address and they can view your webcam streaming. I am not looking for a freebie solution; I can pay for software that works well. I just have yet to find anything like that that works well and is uber easy to use for the watching party.

So my goal is to say “Hey mom, wanna see my webcam? Go to www.blahblah .com and check it out right now!” and she can.

Is there such an animal? What does it take to get this set up? Any help is immensely helpful. If it matters I’m using Windows Vista on a Toshiba laptop with built in cam and the people wanting to watch are using Windows, probably XP.

I’m gonna give this one bump in case anyone has any ideas. Thanks in advance!

A quick and dirty answer is to do a simple search.

You might want to do some research on the particulars of the camera you currently have built in to your computer and see what drivers/software are available.

You might want to check into this webcam software. I’ve used an earlier version and it worked for me.

Thanks for the links- I am aware of how to do a google search. I was hoping someone who was using webcam software to do what I referred to had some suggestions of specific software. I’ve had trouble in the past where I’ve installed a piece of software and it either didn’t do what it said it would or it required a software install on the end user’s side, which I’m trying to avoid.

Thanks again and I welcome any further suggestions from webcam users that are happy with the software solution they found.

Streaming via a webpage is fine and all, but I have yet to see one that’s as good or foolproof as Skype. It does require that people on both ends have Skype installed, but once you’ve got it configured (that is, once you’ve installed it and added people into your contact list), it’s pretty foolproof. And it’s free, so that’s a big plus. Worked a heckuva lot better for us than Yahoo, AIM, or MSN, at any rate.
