WebPoolFileFile

Every now and then a file called “WebPoolFileFile” pops up in my windows/temp directory. I cannot delete it because it is always being used; I logged back in under DOS and deleted it but a new one came back after I rebooted. Has anyone ever seen this file and know what it is or might be?

I have the same undeletable file in my temp folder. It is apparenlty related to some McAfee software. I found this site http://www.computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/4990

I asked McAfee Anti-virus “How to get rid of WebPoolFileFile” Their answer is as follows:
CAUSE: This file is part of the ActiveX and Java scanner in VShield for VirusScan 4.0.0 and above.
FIX: There is no need to delete this file because it is a temporary file for VShield’s internet scanning. The file will disappear if you exit VShield but cannot be deleted because it is in use by VShield.

McAfee confirmed that WebPoolFileFile indeed is part of VShield WebScanX and is therefore absolutely harmless and should be left where it belongs!

Sounds like it’s harmless, but it seems bizarre that McAfee would purposely create a file that looks like it might be a virus.
