I’m thinking about getting a new car, and, with 80+ miles/day for a commute, MPG is important to me.
Can anyone recommend a website that compares, in a readable format, different cars from different manufacturers? I’ve been trying to go to the individual manufacturers’ websites, and dang, they do love to make it hard to find that info.
I agree with Hampshire about kbb and edmunds. They also give you other necessary information (MSRP, rebates, invoices) that should help you make the right decision. Using MPG estimates alone might not be the best move, because if a car costs $5000 more but gives you 4 mpg of gasoline better mileage, it would not be a cost-efficient move (such as certain hybrids that have GREAT gas mileage but takes a while to get your money back). Also, you need to consider the types of gasoline used for the car (diesel, premium, regular) and the costs of such gasoline in your area.
The best site (that I have personally used) is www.FuelEconomy.gov. This sites gives you the estimates for the government (which are not always accurate) and user input from people who actually own the cars. VERY GOOD SITE.
I understand what you are saying FormerMarineGuy, but compared to finding MPG, finding costs is easy. I’m hoping to start with a list of cars that get good mileage, and then look at the rest of the specs/price for them.
