Here in midwest U.S., I’ve been to several weddings where the bride and groom come back in after walking out of the church and then dismiss the rows of the inviteds in place of a huge receiving line. At all the church weddings I’ve been to, you have to wait in line anyway to get out of the church because of the receiving line, and this way it seems more personalized. Plus, it’s just the bride and groom (meaning that mom and dad and the bridal party is off the hook if they don’t want to be in it), you as the invited get to talk to the new couple for a bit and offer congratulations, and it just seems nice. Give it a thought, maybe, if it fits in with your customs.
Oh! If you go this route, generally the paster or officiator gives a brief announcement that “the bride and groom will be returning, so please remain in your seats” so that people know what to expect instead of getting up for a receiving line.
