wedding ideas

Hi folks.

Soon (this winter) I will be marrying the love of my life. Excited doesn’t even begin to cover how I feel about it. Naturally, we want this to be a unique and unforgettable event for everyone involved.

So does anyone have any really neat wedding ideas? This would include ideas for the reception, the groom’s dinner, the ceremony itself, anything relating to a wedding. Any old/interesting/fun/long-forgotten wedding customs or traditions that you may know of? Something just your family does? Maybe something unique you’ve always wanted to do at your own wedding? Or even something really cool you did do at your wedding that was a big hit?

Neither myself nor my fiancee are religious (we’re being married in an historic courthouse) but we are not against including the traditions of any faith if we find them to be personally meaningful and special.

If I may be so self-indulgent as to promote my own little website (It’s non-commercial! No ads! I get no money for hits! Don’t worry!)…

I collected some ideas from other couples which are especially suited to small weddings. Even if you’re not having a small wedding, you might find some of the ideas interesting.

Cranky, your site rocks!!

I’m frantic trying to work out what to do for my wedding - all I know is I want it as small as possible. Who needs a bunch of semi-strangers watching the most important moment of your life? So I’ve got my guest list down to 18 of my closest relatives and best friends, including bridal party

Now I have to work out the where and when, and that’s driving me nuts. I think some of the hints on your site may pay off. You rock!

At the last Phoenix doper microfest at least two of us thought that the perfefct wedding would be in a drive through chapel in vegas with an ordained Elvis impersonator. The only disagreement was over what songs he should sing as I appear to the the only one who likes In the Ghetto

Candlemas,
Something we did at my wedding reception that went over very well was this–when it came time to throw the bouquet and the garter we had special ones set aside made of chocolate lollipops and ribbons. All kids under 13 came up first and wrestled and fought over those. That way the adults could wrestle and fight over the “real” ones without kicking some young’un in the head, or being all secretly pissed off when a six-year-old sneaks under everybody’s legs and snatches it mid-air. It is also fun because it means you (the blushing bride) get to throw something large and potentially ouch-inducing at not just one, but two groups of your relatives and friends. That goes for hubby too.

BTW—Congratulations!! Here’s wishing you luck and love.
