I am eloping soon. This is not a seat- of -the -pants thing. “Mrs. Trees” and I have been living in sin for 20 years. We’ve only recently gotten a little sense of taking life seriously.
We are to be wed 2 weeks from now.
Neither of us are good with words. We hope to find the simplest, most concise vows. We don’t want to say any “Doth thou” shit. We might want the classic vow translated to modern speak.
I want a real, sincere, way to vow that my lady is indeed my lady.
One personal twist: I wish to say: “YOU are MY person!” or, “You are My Creature!” to close out vow.
This person is my whole life. I hope to gather a few simple lines to express this.
I’m hoping for tips on resources to craft, copy, or steal a nice vow that represents the way I feelt
Even if I don’t take any advice, the stimulation will get me thinking. Thanks in advance
I know it’s against the rules to change people’s quotes but I’m hoping in this case this is ok.

ETA: add an “I love you today and forever” at the end.
Congratulations to you both! As a wedding officiant in California, i recommend you research if there are any requirements (a particular phrase, or a certain set of words) in your vows to each other.
Here, there has to be a declaration that one person intends to marry and takes the other as spouse/husband/wife*. This way, one can simply state as little as “My dearest, you are my person. I want to marry you and be your *____. “
However, in Canada, if i recall, there is a two sentence passage that must be inserted into every ceremony text.
That being said, my favourite vows are something to the effect of:
“I promise to be your confidante and your partner, your ally in conflict, your greatest fan and your best friend, your comrade in adventure, your student and your teacher, your accomplice in mischief, your consolation in disappointment, and your strength in your need.”
Good luck, and congrats, maazel tov and all that stuff!
I got my mother to read at my wedding. My vows, I memorised, but my mum reading the lyrics for the Beatles “When I’m Sixty-four”, I think was the highlight.
