Weeds 11/12 (Open Spoilers)

Anybody else still watching? I am loving Celia’s new career as a drug landlord; her unholy alliance with Veneyta (sp) is quite amusing.

Speaking of unholy alliances: Nancy has made a deal with a devil by “contracting” Guillermo and his enforcer thugs. 50% of everything seems a bit steep??? **Is she getting ready to make a butt-load of bucks and then disappear with the kids? **

I can’t remember the exact words, but it was hilarious when Nancy told her bro that she wasn’t going to war with the motorcycle gang with a Hindi drag queen and a 4’ Jesus freak as her soldiers.

I really can’t stand the Shane as ghostwhisperer sub-plot: it’s lazy to use him as the conscience of the show. I also find him an unappealing little kid anyway.

I’m still watching. Nancy really is on the fast track to Hell, first offing Peter, then as U-Turn’s heir (nice tattoo), then screwing her disgusting boss, now with Guillermo. Her point, that she is a drug dealer and this is how drug dealers have to live, is well-taken, though. She can’t maintain her self-image as single mom just trying to make ends meet anymore. She’s a gangster, and it’s a family business.

I agree about Shane seeing dead people-- annoying. Silas’ acting out is much more realistic.

Yeah, that was a good scene where she finally dropped the “I’m just trying to make ends meet” facade.

What do you think about the Guillermo move?

I’ve thought this since last season and, maybe I’m just holding onto a pet conspiracy theory of mine but the show hasn’t convinced me that Nancy’s husband really is dead. The second one, not the first.

What clues do we have:

  1. A body discovered with his badge on it, but never further identified and decomposed way too much for how long he should have been dead.
  2. A dirty background never really hinted at until late last season and never yet fully explained
  3. A story of how Peter used to go off by himself, breaking all communication for days or weeks at a time with the agency and his family.
  4. A darkened car that followed Nancy around early in this season, driver still unrevealed.

Maybe I’m wrong. I don’t think I am. I guess we’ll see next week in the season finale when he’d be most likely to reappear.

I thought they revealed that the car was being driven by Peter’s partner. And I would assume that the DEA ID’d his body. So I doubt he’s still alive.

As for Shane’s ghost whispering, I’m willing to accept it as his way of dealing with the problems caused by Nancy’s drug dealing. (Remember that he first started to talk to Ghost Dad after the alarm system went off and he was the only one in the house.)

Basically, the show has gotten a lot darker since the lightness of the first season.

I’m still watching, but I don’t know why. Nancy has become a much less sympathetic the more she sleeps around (-she’s on her fourth partner now? Fifth? I lose track-) and the more she becomes a hard-ass drug lord. She was much more likeable as a put-upon housewife just trying to make ends meet.

And the “white Christian suburbanites are really clueless” theme is getting kinda tiresome, too. I realize that is the basic premise of the show, but even so, it’s getting kinda stale. And some of the stereotyping is getting pretty ugly, far beyond having a ring of truth.

But isn’t that what would happen, if Nancy were a real person? In business that is out there in the capitalist free market of the drug trade, you either grow or die. Nancy’s little cottage venture has been experiencing growing pains, but in order to expand, she’s got to get harder. Rings true to me.

Though I do agree about the Christian stereotypes. That’s a bit much.

I’m still watching, although lately there’s been a little too much “I can’t BELIEVE this is happening!” going on for me.

I think Guillermo is hot so I am happy to see more of him

I also think the Humongous Cross thing is absolutely hilarious! I got tired of Doug when he was all up in Celia but now that he’s gone off the deep end I am really liking him again.

I also think Conrad’s a stupid fool for being all jealous about Nancy. Sure, she’s a slut but he’s way too awesome to be fawning over her.

I dunno. For me, part of the fun was watching her deal drugs while (counter to the Hollywood stereotype of a drug dealer) remaining a sweet, likeable person. She is neither sweet nor likeable any more.

I thought one of the strong points of the show was challenging stereotypes of drug users and drug dealers. But now, they just seem to be slowly turning Nancy into the same old tired stereotype (and surrounding her with other stereotypes).

The writing is getting really lazy.

I watch and will continue to watch as long as there’s a chance that I’ll see Conrad’s ass again.

It would strain my willing suspension of disbelief if Nancy remained a sweet, lovable little housewife while also moving major product in the LA area. Characters have to change or there’s no story. There was no way Nancy was going to remain in the game, yet stay nice and normal suburban mom. I honestly don’t think it was possible. I’d also contend that she basically wasn’t that innocent and nice in the first place, or she wouldn’t have been dealing drugs or even seen it as a possibility for herself.

I think it’s still challenging stereotypes, while bringing Nancy closer to the norm the longer she’s exposed to that culture.

I’d hardly call that “sleeping around”. Some of her partner choices are pretty questionable though.

A “slut”? Not even close.

Didn’t you like the bit when she wiped the mouth of the one biker while visiting the biker gang to tell them their weed sucked and she wasn’t going to buy any more?
