I bought my last Civil War tie-in today - Civil War : Battle Damage Report. I am amused to learn Slapstick will be gracing the pages of Marvel once again and that’s almost enough to tempt me into buying again - almost.
Also picked up Amazing Spider-Man, where the Back in Black story originates. Spidey goes all emo and violent. Eh. I’m done.
X-Factor notches up the intrigue factor with some cryptic clues and it appears the crap is about to hit the fan.
Exiles, sadly, was chock-full of Claremontian dreck. Psylocke is the ultimate Sue. Morph’s powers appear to work differently now, and his personality’s off.
Aquaman Sword of Atlantis #50: The writing shows promise, but the art needs a lot of work. I’m glad to see the new Arthur and the full-on S&S approach are surviving the loss of Busiek.
Detective Comics #830: A decent little filler story, but it got just a touch preach there at the end.
Birds of Prey #104: Did not see that coming. That ought to shut up the “oh my god! They haet the JLI!” And Secret Six is always awesome.
The Flash The Fastest Man Alive #10: Zoom is always welcome. And a decent little mystery to bring us to the big plot and reveal.
Y The Last Man #55: So, are they gonna screw before or after they get to Beth? And thanks for that one panel Pia. You know the one I mean.
Checkmate #12: I’m really liking Not-Judomaster-Jr. And machiavellian social combat? Bring it on.
Tales of the Unexpected #6: There we go. It just ain’t the Spectre if it ain’t Mandrake. And the plot is picking up quite nicely. But as always, the real attraction is Dr. 13. “A Vampyah gorillah with… Fahzhits leanninks… Thad-- iz pure gol!” And the identity of the Architects is hilarious.
Mystery in Space #7: Still fun pulpy action.
**The Brave and the Bold #2: ** Hal uses all of his vaunted willpower to avoid having his genitals burned off by the last son of Krypton. This series is just great. Lots of fun. I don’t quite like the treatment of Blue Beetle here. You’d think he wouldn’t be quite so happy to see Batman considering what happened when last they teamed up, and his reaction to Oracle.
52 Weel 46: Mad scientist smackdown! Magnus gets some lovin’ from someone you can’t make fine jewelry out of!
52: I love the scientists…I’d like to see these guys in their own book.
Civil War Battle Damage Report: I’m not really sure why I picked this one up. For some reason, I can’t help myself from buying Civil War one-shots, and Lord knows those ALWAYS deliver. (insert sarcasm smiley)
Runaways Saga: Basically a recap of the whole series told through the eyes of Molly. Totally unneccessary. But I bought it anyway.
The Spirit: I’m on the verge of dropping this title…but there’s an old-school appeal that brings me back.
JSA: Loved the fight between Vandal Savage and Wildcat and…Wildcat?
Cable/Deadpool: I can’t wait for the Bob, Servent of Hydra mini-series!
X-Factor: Consistently excellent. Madrox is by far the most improved character in the last five years.
Loving JSA, but the most exciting part for me was the appearance of a certain member of another team on the last page. As you might gather from my screen name, I’ve been looking forward to that storyline.
52 is great, but I was hoping they would give us some explination for why the Marvel’s didn’t try to stop Adam’s rampage.
Detective - I thought it was a nice little story, and I didn’t mind the message at the end. Very entertaining.
Flash - The title’s getting a bit better - Bart’s normalizing a bit towards his ‘real’ personality. Progress. Of course, a cover from June has shown up promising the potential for the return of a previous Flash… which would be for the best.
Checkmate - Yes! Very solid. One of my favorite OYL launched ongoings.
Mystery in Space - Looking forward to the end of this, in a good way.
Me, too. Was also happy to see Obsidian lurking around, and am hoping we get to see more of the revamped Sandman pretty soon. Any guesses whom Sandy’s dream-vision was about? the crystal ball sounded familiar, but my JSA-fu has failed me.
And very happy to see they’re maturing PG’s character. However, I suspect that the large team roster is going to mean some characters will be relegated to the occasional walk-on… unfair! I like pretty much this whole lineup!
the Brave & the Bold didn’t, to me, seem to get Blue Beetle’s personality wrong, as much as it had Supergirl’s personality completely off-kilter. I kept expecting it to be revealed that she was playing Hal, since that would be more in line with the current Kara’s personality. Seems they sincerely thought that the ditzy teenager Kara was appropriate, though.
Justice Society #4: “I’m not calling myself Tomcat.” Heh. The goodness continues. Let’s hope the crossover doesn’t bog it down.
The Brave and the Bold #2: Eh, I’ve accepted that Kara won’t have a consistent personality anytime soon. I’m just enjoying the ride.
Ion #12: That’s it? If this were issue 12 of an ongoing I suppose it would be okay, but I wanted something more out of a maxi-series. I’m also not a fan of the artist.
52 #46: Revenge of the nerds. I’ve got a bad feeling for Al.
Supergirl #15: I really like this book. So much crazy jam-packed into it.
Supergirl has been enjoyable, and this issue exceptionally so. Her personality does seem to vary, but for what its worth, the way she appears in B&B #2 (which was my favorite of the week) is consistent with her Legion appearances, and for my money, a much more likeable incarnation of the character.
Ion’s art in the last issue pleased me just fine, after the impressionistic disaster of the first half.
Brave and the Bold - Just plain perfect. Wouldn’t change a thing.
52 - Is it wrong that I want the Oolong crew to get their own series? Loved this issue.
BoP - runs around, arms flapping, making high pitched ‘squeeeeee’ That last page filled me with joy. Also, Catman/Huntress is hot.
JSofA - Tommy! Maxine! … There was more to this book? >_> Well, OK… Dreamy! Also, concerning that part… Clearly, this lot are from before Giffen’s Legion run - Dreamy’s thin, and Dawnie has wings. Come on Blok and Quislet! Still, though…Tommy and Maxine!
52 - Go Evil Nerds! I want to see more of IQ. Presuming Adam doesn’t rip his head off in the next few issues.
