We get the next installment of the Seven Soldiers thing this week - Guardian.
Well, I hear Spidey/Torch 3 is great, and has Delicious Hostess Fruit Pies.
And the Spider-Mobile.
Livewires 2, too.
Has anyone else noticed that the Vertigo “On The Ledge” page does not list Y: The Last Man for this month?
What’s up with that? It’s never missed a solicitation before.
The schedule slipped somewhat during the last arc and it looks like DC didn’t solicit an issue for March to compensate for the delay. #32 is solicited to go on sale April 6.

I’m going out of town for the long weekend, but I am stopping on my way out of work to pick up Sleeper Season 2 #10, JLA Classified #5, Seven Soldiers: Guardian #1, and maybe some more cheap Cable back issues, if they have any. I’ll probably hit up some of the comic shops in Miami while I’m down there, too.
Thanks! I was concerned.
Guardian #1: Oh, Grant, you had me at “Subway Pirates” (more complete comments in the 7S thread).
Runaways #2: Decent, but not good enough to get me interested in a books that seems as mired in obscure Marvel continuity as this one. If excelsior were DC z-listers (Arrowette, the Wonder Twins, Hero Cruz, Argent and, um, the ghost of Spoiler?), or the Runaways new characters, I’d be back next month, but my Marvel full is weak and my poull list to bloated as it is.
Wonder Woman #I forget but it’s last week’s Flash x-over: This comic makes me feel like a grumpy old man. Flash went down like a chump! He’s never healed that fast before! Ah, this must be Zoom’s second appearance, as he’s substantially weaker than he was before. Zoom wouldn’t cheat on his wife! My feet hurt! And how come a major disability only makes Diana more badass? And how come the Reverse Flash is being drafted into Wonder Woman’s rogues gallery? The nurses have been stealing from me! Okay, okay. I wasn’t happy with the Flash/Zoom stuff, but the Wonder Woman plots in the background with Athena and Ares intrigued me, so I guess the crossover’s real intention was successful.
JLA Classified #5: I knew it wasn’t my cuppa, and this didn’t show me otherwise. So I’ll just hold my tongue.
Did you read #4 first, or Formerly Known As the Justice League, or any of the JLI stuff?
If you didn’t like it, don’t worry. It will become painfully obvious next week that the story is not only a flashback, but most likely out of continuity entirely.
JLA : Classified - I have only one thing to say. BWAHAHAHAHA! Booster, in the final panel… it kills me!
Livewires #2 - I’m still digging this.
Guardian #1: Typical Grant Morrison cynicism, but I like it so far. I like the nod to continuity (“we bought the Project from the government”), and I like the high-tech super-mobile that breaks down.
Hellblazer #206: Now, Chas? Just now you realize you’ve been John’s stooge all these years?
Books of Magick: Life During Wartime #9: Focus is sharpening, but there’s still a lot going on here I don’t understand. Top of the list: why is Zatanna blonde?
Legend #2: On deck; haven’t read it yet. I couldn’t read the first issue without thinking of Arn Munro. Has anyone here read Philip Wylie’s Gladiator?
The rest -
Army of Darkness : Shop Till You Drop Dead #2 - And they’re back to giving us what seems like a retread of the movie stuff, nothing new. As I said before, that means it’s good, just disatisfyingly unoriginal.
Nightwing #106 - And we wrap up our little blast from the past. Nice to see Nightwing get the Year One treatment.
New Avengers #4 - Okay, despite what Bendis did to the old Avengers, I can’t stay mad at the guy who has Spider-Man point out, in character, the little-known rule that any trip in a vehicle to the Savage Land ends in a vehicle crash. This actually looks like it’ll be a good ride.
Conan #14 - Still a good book, and I think Busiek does Conan very well, I’m just starting to lose interest in Conan. Not sure if I’ll continue with the book for a while or not.
Authority : Revolution #6 - Well, I like the Authority.
I read #4, but nothing previous to this. The original JLI run was before my time, and I didn’t pick up FKATJL, mostly because I like my superheroes, and the Justice League in paticular, to be more heroic and epic. Not so much the sitcom. But it’s such a personal taste that I’m loath to go into detail. I’ll just hold my peace until the next team takes over, probably with more traditional heroics.
DELICIOUS *OSTESS FRUIT PIES SAVE THE DAY!!!
Spider-Man / Torch #3. Best comic all day. Even counted against Livewires #2 and the discovery of the Liberty Project.
And the last panel!
Why’s everybody dissin’ the JLI? I just read JLA: Classified #5 and… well, I haven’t laughed so hard since #4! And when I read #4, that was the funniest thing I’d read since the old JLI stuff. I’m glad to see it again Gardner was always my favorite of that bunch, anyway.
And howcum nobody’s talking about Araña? One of the best new characters I’ve seen in quite a while.
Seven Soldiers: Guardian #1 – Fucking awesome. I had a smile on my face the whole way.
Simpsons/Futurama Crossover Crisis II #2 – Great! A perfect conclusion. More gags than you can shake a stick at. All the characters sounded like themselves. And it made use of lots of stuff from the shows. Just a great humor comic.
Spellbinders #1 – I love Mike Carey, I love Mike Perkins. Both of them do less than their best job here, but it’s still a very enjoyable comic. Seems somewhat complex for complexity’s sake, but they got the factionalism of high school right and there are already a ton of characters I’d like to know more about.
Runaways #2 – I agree it’s not as great as I’d expected. First of all, Excelsior’s made up of real idiots; of course they’re some bad guy’s pawns. And I always hated the cliche that when two good guys meet they always fights, and here it happens twice (almost). The real gem of this title had been the interaction of the various characters, and there’s been less of that so far as they’ve been sharing the stage with Excelsior (plus half of this issue was a fight scene). This is OK, good even, but I know it will get better. I wish it’d hurry up and do so.

Oh, just read Countdown To Infinite Crisis next week. You haven’t seen the tip of the JLI-dissin’ iceberg yet. :smack:
Care to elaborate on this, BBVL?
Warning: If you read this, it will spoil the major shocking revelation of the 80-page story, due out next week. Needless to say, I am not thrilled.
After Blue Beetle does some investigating of the OMAC Project, Maxwell Lord is revealed to be the “Black King” of Checkmate, and he blows Beetle’s brains out.
Yeah, between my question and your reply, I went looking for the info. It sucks. By the by, the first 10 pages or so of DC Countdown are up on the web - apparently Cyborg has ‘Ultraviolent’ scanners, and Metropolis got annexed by the state of New York.
Nitpicking away…
