I seem to only gain weight in my stomach, the rest of me is thin. Any way to stop the weight gain in that particular area and maybe start toning the area as well?
I’m going to bet you’re male. Most men put fat on at our stomache while most women at the hips and thighs. Thats just how our genders are built.
Unfortunately there is no physiological way to spot-reduce. Liposuction to remove some of the adipose cells in the stomache would effectively shift fat storage away from that site, but would lead to a host of other problems. The fat has to go SOMEWHERE. For example lipsuction could cause sagging arm fat despite a toned arm.
Males tend to gain fat in an ‘apple shape’ (fat on stomach, not on bottom and hips); some females also gain in an apple, and some in a ‘pear shape’ (fat on hips and bottom, not on stomach). Unfortunately it’s genetics and there’s nothing you can do to shift the weight from one area to another. All you can do is lose the excess fat via diet and exercise (yep, sucks!), layers of fat should then peel off all over you, and eventually your tummy will flatten.
Before embarking on any diet or exercise regime, consult a doctor. In your case, because you have some abdominal adiposity this is even more important, because this can be a sign of type 2 diabetes.
It would pay to get your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose checked, just to know where you stand. Even if it’s all ok, it’s good to get a baseline reading which can be compare with another reading once you’ve made some progress on the new regime.
Good Luck!
